Hahahahaha... I do hope this was a joke post, because the quality of that blog is laughable as a investigative piece... It's just a typical fan moan... "Why do we always get the owrst ref? Why do we always have the FA on our backs?" Wah Wah... If guilty, and I see the FA think video footage is no longer evidence (re-Tevez affair)Terry deserves banishment from the game for which racism was supposedly kicked out long ago. Always glass half full with these people, it's really irritating... You do know you've won cups and got to the final of the Champions League recently right?
A very interesting read, and very well written. And definitely some food for thought in there. But I have to respectfully disagree with the sentiments of it. In fact - similar arguments are made by fans of plenty of other premier league clubs: Like it or not, we are a nation of complainers, we love a sensationalist headline and we adore scapegoats. Particularly when said scapegoats are involved in the english national team. I think its our beloved media's idea of drumming up support, by pillarying those who represent us. The hatred that was sent David Beckham's way after one mindless flick of his right boot in 1998 was to an extent that exceeded what you would expect to result from a footballing occasion many times over. The abuse that Emile Heskey got every time he put an England shirt on cannot be comprehended. Frank Lampard deserves a medal for still willingly playing for England, as his treatment at the hands of those supposed to support him for having the absolute nerve to do te job asked of him by his manager has been nothing short of shocking. The best technical player England has at the moment is Wayne Rooney - ok so maybe you wouldnt introduce him to your grandma, but 90% of the things he does that he gets so widely criticised for (I am not including elbows here, as they are never acceptable) can be attributed to raw passion, the passion that makes him the talented player that he is. A player who, in a country without the dinasour press and persecution complex we have here, would have flourished into twice the player he currently is. I could go on - in short, every single England player is walking a tight rope in everything they do - the press are looking for every possible reason to hang them out to dry. Unforunately, as england's captain, John Terry is at the front of the queue. I can say with a fair degree of certainty though, that had it been Rooney, or Gerrard, or Cole, or Ferdinand, or any other high profile player involved the reaction would have been the same. Not that it is constrained just to English players - had this been, say, Drogba, we would be reading article after article about how 'jonny foreigners' are ruining our perfect game. Ultimately, its one scapegoat after another. They will get bored of the Terry story when they catch another footballer committing a heinus crime like visiting a pub, or singing in the street. There have, though, been many examples over the last few years of other clubs' players being hung out to dry for things others have been guilty of. I think this is largely as a result of being victims of circumstance. Depends how much else there is to talk about. How well the paper is selling at the moment/what sort of viewing figures the news station are getting. It's the one reason that I don't begrudge players their earnings as much as many do. They can't fart twice in public without it making a newspaper somewhere, and frankly were it not for the money many of them would have chucked it in a long time ago. And those criticising them for playing, would then be criticising them for not playing.
I appreciate your constructive criticism, you've made some good points about other Eng internationals as well. But to be fair Heskey has been ridiculed even for club as well as country, believe me on that
"Terry deserves banishment from the game for which racism was supposedly kicked out long ago." WHAT THE! You JPF, typifies exactly what the blog was highlighting. You propose "Bannishing" Englands captain without any solid evidence that he is guilty of anything. You are a Twat, and you are not typical of most Geordies, who are normally level headed in my opinion.
Once upon a time it was a prerequisite of quality journalism, that it was unbiased! Then the red tops started picking and carping with journos who didn't try very hard to disguise their own favourite teams! Now it seems not even the so called quality press are immune I listen to Sky broadcasting and how easy it is to pick up on the anti- Chelsea bias of the likes of Charlie Nicholas and before him the now disgraced Andy Gray. I just let it wash over me by thinking , every time we score, every time we win-- makes it a bad day for them! Lets hope they all have many bad days!
Hahaha glad you read my post sir... I did say "if guilty"... But let's just quote out of context... As District Line says, the irony considering the topic of the thread is unbelievable. I'd say you deserve a clit round the ear, but considering it is you who actually is the twat, I assume you're permanently in contact with one...
To be fair JPF , me and I dont doubt all committed Chelsea fans, dont rest easy with the issues connected with JT and the QPR game. None of us know the facts so debate by anyone on here about it is all speculative! CFC and their fans will rise above this, but we I'm sure will get through it knowing that we're being disparaged by the press. JT isnt an angel, we all know that, but if they want a crusade agaist him , why dont they just make it headline debate?
<musicalnote> I wanna girl, just like the one, that married dear old dad <musicalnote> <musicalnote> She was a pearl, and the only girl, that daddy ever had <musicalnote>
we live in a world where tabloid newspapers live for stories involving high profile footballers. de gea and the doughnut, rooney and the 'nice to be booed by your own fans' in south africa, terry and vanessa perroncel. to suggest that chelsea are somehow especially targetted for this is misguided. it happens to all big footballers, balotelli, tevez etc. the reason terry is such a target is because he is england captain, he is supposed to be setting an example, so naturally any article exposing anything about him will be jumped on by the press. if anything, i'd say there is a bias against arsenal at the moment. it was the end of the world when they were 15th in the table after 4 games or something. people were questioning wenger right left and centre despite finishing in the top 4 every single season he's been there. if there was ever a time to give a manager time it was then, but this is the world we live in, people jump to conclusions quicker than ever before. fast forwards to now and arsenal are within touching distance of the top 4. the people who called for wengers head will now be saying they are in fact moving forwards, i heard a pundit saying that who probably slated him say 2 months ago. the blog is biased, in my opinion. i may be biased myself but i think chelsea are probably the worst of the bunch when it comes to a complete lack of respect for officials. john terry is forever in the refs ear, questioning every decision he makes. yes fergie also shows a lack of respect for officials, but so do most managers, some of the most tiresome being pulis and moyes. refs are always against your club and for the others, thats life
When the truth comes out i really do hope Anton gets banned from football for life and JT sues his ass for slander
I almost agreed with everything you said up untill the last paragraph. You say this because of maybe AVB's recent couple of rants and maybe even the Barca semi final in 09. I think you'll find United are the worst lot for arguing with officials . I vividly remember either last season or the one before, Vidic had a decision against him and stormed over to the linesman with Rio and the rest of the manky mob who then blasted the linesman's head off in order to get the decision. They did in fact get the decision and it is the worst I've ever seen of this. Only way to stop is goal line technology for everything, people say Rugby players respect the referee and I think it's because proof is able to be shown to the players so there's no point in screaming and ending up looking like a fool. I'll agree that we're no angels when it comes to this with Drog, Terry and Cole but they are the only three I can honestly think of and I'll concur with the fact that when they do it, it is pretty out of order.
