Dembele looks set to stay at Barca by all accounts. That's a shame because I've watched them a fair bit of late and he has been outstanding.
I'm not sure that any players from the the likes of Barca would be a good fit for us presently. Trippier from Athletico clearly fits outside of that general assessment, as he was willing to sign up to a project that is still purely domestic. Maybe our pull is on the rise though.
Yes I agree. I would love both of them. I think priority has to be a world class forward (not striker) who can link up Miggy and ASM.
The downside to having genuine competition in every position is that some won't get to play regularly - and that starts a whole different set of headaches for the manager, having to deal with disgruntled players. It's clearly a much nicer problem than looking around and wondering who the hell to risk putting in the team. But it's still a problem many if the bigger teams have, to try to keep everyone happy. It's also vital to sign the tight type of players with the character to work harder when not selected, rather than bitching & sulking.
Indeed but it's what you need these days.... Getting players that don't cry and understand is the key. I mean if Targett gets injured what then? Dummet is ****
Manquillo or Trippier come in for that example which is fine for a few games I get what you're saying though. However we can't expect 2 "purple" players in every position. What we need is the academy to push out more talent so you have an established player and a hungry youngster keeping up the pressure
Yeah that was my point about it can't all be 2x 'purple' in every position. Targett (as mentioned above) is actually a very good example. Why did we get him? Because Villa bought Digne. Targett could have decided to fight for his place and therefore potentially spend much of the season on the bench. Instead he moved on. You can't keep a full squad of 'purple' players happy. Yes we need decent cover in all positions, but some of that has to be youth players with potential.
Everton and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 25, would prefer a move to Arsenal over Newcastle. (Football Insider) Ok go to them or languish in the Championship.
Aye it was just all the links to him. It seemed possible. I've watched a fair bit of Barca of late and he is one of the big reasons for their turnaround. With that has come Xavi relying on him though so I reckon they will sort out a contract. Not too worried, I think we will be delighted come the summer. This lad is just a bit next level, which did make me wonder whether we could really pull that type in with no European football to offer. 3-5 Bruno type level players and we are laughing.
