Trade agreement in India coming up. Be interesting when that involves movement of people and some people will be justifying why that’s good whilst freedom of movement in the EU is bad.

Interesting program on BBC2 tonight, following the attempted assasination of Alexei Navalny by the FSB, using Novichok....

Should be available on iPlayer soon

"In August 2020, a plane travelling from Siberia to Moscow made an emergency landing. One of its passengers, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, was deathly ill. Taken to a local Siberian hospital and eventually evacuated to Berlin, doctors there confirmed that he had been poisoned with Novichok, a nerve agent implicated in attacks on other opponents of the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin immediately cast doubt on the findings and denied any involvement.

While recovering, Navalny and his team unravel the plot against him, finding evidence of the Kremlin’s involvement, and prepare to go public with their findings"

It was fascinating...Navalnys team identified the hit team and rang one of them who was tricked into describing the method of attack ( they put nonochuk into his underpants at a hotel laundry...point of knowledge never send your clothes out for washing in a hotel).

Catch it if you can..it was fascinating but so dreadful

On that basis nobody would ever be able to claim asylum on an island state - very convenient for such a welcoming country which harps on at extraordinary length about its proud tradition of welcoming refugees while taking in a handful each time.

While “harping” on, are you saying over the past 250 years we haven’t made welcome the worlds people. Maybe an independent Yorkshire is different to London

No one is harping on as far as I can see. I think we are an enormously welcoming country. Just look at how ethnic communities of all types have flourished here. All I am saying is that we need proper control over numbers. 30,000 plus annual illegals, often unskilled, uneducated and without any real command of English offer little to the country. We cannot afford this influx. Where do you suggest the money will come from? Have you had the misfortune of trying to use the NHS recently? Tried to get your child into a chosen school? We do not have the resources to look after more people when our pressured systems already cannot serve those who have for years, funded those services.

It's all very interesting and sad no doubt. But according to the Russian version of the truth the Ukrainians didn't sink it anyway. If that is so, what's the problem and why does it require a response by the Russians?

To answer both you and Wherever, I agree that this country does have a proud reputation of letting in refugees in the past. I'm afraid you can't rely on that when our political leaders over the last 10 years have done everything possible to make it impossible for anyone who is a genuine refugee to come to this country. With a couple of exceptions.

    The exceptions are:

1 Ukrainians who Joe Public wants to help who just happen all to be white and christian. But our leaders seem determined to put them through the wringer and tie them up in red tape first. Syria? Millions of refugees who have lost everything? Why are they different? You explain it to us if it is not race, religion or culture. Goldie's implied suggestion that they are all volatile terrorists which he swiftly abandoned on the basis that the terrorists are largely second generation ie BRITISH convinced few. I understand the point that we cannot afford to take them in. That is right. But then who can? Why should it be France Germany and Italy only?

2 Billionaires of all colours and nationalities as long as they will make donations to particular political parties. FFS. We'll even put Putin's man into the House of Lords but a genuine refugee we'll pack off to Rwanda for the crime that he wants a good safe peaceful and prosperous life in the future. Before you say it, I accept fully the possibility that some are not genuine.

It takes many years to build up a reputation for doing the right thing. And as we see every single day that enviable reputation gets destroyed and more besmirched by the day by our leaders

If we didn’t have a renowned reputation “for doing the right thing” we wouldn’t have the population of a town illegally entering our country each year.

It’s not a race issue, we can no more afford those poor people for Kyiv than we can Mogadishu. Of course, there is far more public sympathy for Ukrainians as they are more clearly, truly fleeing persecution.

He got nine years in a Labour camp (so far), they'll probably accuse him of something else before he's out if he survives..

It's a fair enough question. I assume that given where most of them have come from, Rwanda could not be much further away from the chosen destination. I've not gone beyond the leaders and headlines. But I do have a little experience of the immigration system. From that I would say that the odds anyone without all their paperwork already in place (and I don't mean passports and visa) will be allowed to stay in the UK is slim to start off with. Add to this the fact that where entry is refused, the legislation normally allows for an appeal only after you have left the country. What I do not know at all because I haven't read up on it is what happens once your asylum application has been processed in Rwanda and refused. I can't believe we will pay to put them on a flight back to France. Does anyone actually know? I can guess what the answer is but then perhaps I am being cynical.

Absolutely. They can all go and live with Kiwi and if they learn to chant Soopah-Hoopsah to Pigbag they can try again because they've been immersed into popular Bush culture.

So you are to blame for our demise? Next thing you'll be telling is that all those season-ending injuries are nothing but fake news because they are all outside your front door at night howling to the moon.
