When ever this fixture comes up, I'm always reminded of the " twinkle toes" goal scored by Whitts in the FA cup game. Of course we went on to the final. This is almost a dead rubber of a game with Boro having to secure maximum points fro their remaining games and hope that others slip up. For us, it's likely to be another frustrating end of season game before the rebuild can begin in earnest. That said, I think we might nick this one though I suspect Mr Bamba will have other ideas Bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobirds
I watched that in a bar near White Hart Lane - invited to a Spurs game v West Spam by my work IT supplier who had a pair of season tickets. The whole bar shut up for a few seconds after Whitt's goal went in. It takes something special to shut up a bar of gobby Londoners.
I was visiting my daughter who lives in Reading. We were in her local and somebody said Cardiff were winning and there was a tv in the next room. Needless to say I abandoned my family and friends till the game was over.
Morison has confirmed Ralls out for the last 3 games, Isaak out tonight, Uche can't play v parent club and Drameh to be assessed before the game. Looking very thin on the ground apart from centre backs. MM's vision to reappear?
For our older contributors (obviously not me), it was a game against 'Boro at Ninian Park in which the enigmatic Greg Farrell pretty much won the game on his own. Think it was around 1966. Greg was a world beater on his day but could be equally terrible, especially if he'd been banged up the night before. Loved watching him play
That quarter final up at the Riverside is definitely one of my happier away day memories (though I was slightly tiddly by half time). Totally unexpected result with Whitts' very special goal as well as a very well taken second from Roger Johnson. Went up on a coach which took a slight detour to stash all the beer from the bus in a hotel car park before going to the rendezvous point as it was supposedly a "dry" bus... Duly picked up said beer on the way back to celebrate in style all the way home. Fun times....
Drameh fit so starts, Bagan out so Ng to left back in a back 4. Midfield 4 of Vaulks, Wintle, Doyle and Colwill with Hugill and Watters up top. Semenyo on bench, and Collins as Uche unavailable to play against home club.
1 down, Taverner from outside the box. Phillips should have stopped it. We're showing little up front. Watters looking lost.
Was going to say the same about Watters. Only seems to have one pace and doesn't seem to know where to run.... Nelson looking shaky too. Denham doing ok again (apart from being left for dead by speed merchant Isiah Jones).
Underwhelming first half although Hugill had a clear chance at the end from a neat little through ball by Colwill. It went 2ft over the bar.should have worked the keeper at least. Watters like a little boy lost. He also had 1 good chance but half hit it at the keeper. Colwill is our main threat. He needs someone alongside/in front of him to take gambles on runs off defenders. Vaulks, Wintle and Doyle are playing too deep to do it. Drameh very subdued, made no lung busting runs. Perhaps not fully fit. Possibly saving it for second half?
2.0 Another ball given away in midfield. Drameh this time. No cover on the right and the ball deflected in off Nelson. Shambles. What changes will Morison make?
You can see what we are trying to do but it's all just too slow and deliberate... I know the players are on a learning curve and as things become more familiar then the speed should come but jeez it'll be a painful watch at times whilst we try to get there...
