Like when you play professional football these.days when Refs are apparently under instructions to let the game run and flow as much as possible. Meaning that the skilfull, dangerous players like happened with Willock, can get hacked down by different players on the opposition and at the worse get a yellow and most often sweet f*** all.
We have to win our last two games to finish 1 point better than last season. Ponder, ponder, ponder…….
My opinion for most of this season has been that Warburton is a decent manager but not a good coach, and I held this opinion during the strongest parts of our season. There are so many small, essential things we do not do as a team, even when we've been playing well. We are not as professional, thorough and disciplined as most other teams in the league. The astonishing thing about this is we've been pretty good at times this season in spite of that. We were the in-form team for a while. All of these small, disciplined and professional touches have to come from the manager and his coaching staff. Warburton is limited. Good manager, not a good coach, doesn't have good coaches around him. So, for me, what I'd be most better with is keeping Warburton (because he knows the club and has good man management) but bring in a really good, tactically minded number 2 and employ better assistant coaches. It's not all about changing managers. You have to build a good team around the manager. I don't believe we have that. I actually really recommend people read the tactics thread I made from the first post to the most recent. It's interesting reading, having the viewpoints over the different stages of the season. https://www.not606.com/threads/the-qpr-tactics-discussion-thread.396709/
I don’t think he is a manager, even though that’s his job title. He’s a coach who picks the first team, he has a Director of Football (Ferdinand) and a Technical Director (Ramsay) above him. They decided to keep Eustace on, usually a new ‘manager’ brings his own team of coaches in. Shankly, Clough and in his early days Ferguson were old school managers who ran the clubs from top to bottom. People like Warnock and Redknapp also, they took a special interest in transfer fees and appearance money.
Anyone thinking of changing their vote, considering that we were nailed on for the top 6 and now look like finishing with less points than last year?
Just listened to Warburton's post match interview and he completely and utterly throws the players under the bus, whilst throwing in that we looked better as soon as we changed formation. Who ****ing decided to play 1 up top in a game we had to win? This numpty has to go!
I didn’t realise we had slipped that far. If l remember correctly, we had a very average season with some much needed wins at the end. This season, we’ve punched above our weight for most there of, then slipped …. or should l say, fell off a cliff to finish much the same. l tend to think our owners are ok with that.
If he did somehow get us promoted next season, would he be the manager you’d want to bring in the players to compete in the premier league? I’m not personally convinced he would be.
Personally, I don't like coaches who always blame the players after every poor performance. Once I'd decided I wanted Warburton gone it was originally just about his coaching, tactics etc, but the further we've gone in this terrible run I realise that I don't like the bloke much either.
I've changed my vote as he's remit was obviously a minimum improve on last year and possibly a playoff place (I'm guessing). Up to Feb we were on target for both, we've been decimated by injuries but he showed during AFCON we could compete without key players, the highlight of our season was sending Derby down and they started with a 21 point deficit, unable to buy players or resign any who's contracts ended but Rooney had them playing with pride and they very nearly escaped. I don't like the way everything is everyone else fault in post match interviews, the fans were too quiet, the atmosphere wasn't right, the players lacked belief/effort. Thank you for the good times Mark but it's time to go.
I’ve heard you saying this repeatedly Col, but which players has he specifically blamed? I’ve heard several of his interviews and can’t say I have particularly heard him pick on certain players. I could be missing something. So I’m keen to understand where you’re hearing which players he has blamed versus the fans feelings for underperformance by certain players.
He names Thomas in yesterday's post match interview, saying he was through and "had to score". He doesn't usually name individuals, but repeatedly criticises the players collectively saying that he can't understand why their performances can vary so much etc. Yesterday's was the clearest example yet of Warburton completely passing the buck onto the players. He also regularly has a go at fans criticising HIM. He can't stand it. I realise we'll never agree on his competence, but have you listened to yesterday's post match interview? If you can't hear him completely blaming the players (as opposed to his usual excuses of number of fixtures, injuries, referees etc etc) then, with respect, that's because you don't want to hear it.
Relegation form, it's hard to see how we can get out of this losing mentality and what caused such a dramatic reversal of form. Injuries obviously didn't help but team selection and tactics have been disastrous. We're in worse shape than at the low point of last season, I have to say are they still playing for him?...
….. and only two points off second. Our team should’ve played with hard hats, yellow vests & safety harnesses with how far we’ve fallen recently.
Fair enough. I was out all day yesterday and back late but will give it a listen. If he can’t understand the variances in performance that would bring into question his management - if someone isn’t performing you abstain from your role as manager not to talk to an individual and understand why/what is impacting their play and try to fix it (or ignoring the data). On Thomas’ example I’ve heard lots of managers talk about a player who should have put away an opportunity, a player who hasn’t had a good game. Sometimes that’s a kick up the backside (if it’s a Klopp or Guardiola) or lost the dressing room (if it’s a Dyche or Lampard). I doubt that MW wouldn’t have said to him directly - ‘mate, you should have taken that one - you would have taken that every day on the training field. It would have changed the game. That’s the pressures you, we all, face at this level’.
Exactly, can’t see it changing even if he stays on, Be interesting to see if the board sees it like this or not
