Good Morning. It's Friday 22nd April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Burnley keep the pressure on Leeds

First half goals from Conor Roberts and Nathan Collins were enough to propel Burnley to within five points of Leeds, as the business end of the season gets into full flow. Sandwiched between the two are Everton, who, after Beating Manchester Utd last weekend, grabbed a last gasp equaliser at Leicester City on Wednesday evening.

With six games still to play, many anxious Whites fans took to social media last night to voice their concern at the remaining fixture list which includes games against Chelsea, Manchester City, Bogey team Brighton and three trips to London, starting with Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

Several months ago, many fans assumed that 30 points would be enough for Premier League survival. Now, we have to assume that 35-37 points is far more likely. In recent years, the team with the most amount of points, but still relegated was Newcastle Utd, during their 15/16 campaign with 37 points.

18,000 tickets sold for crunch U23 clash

Leeds Utd have sold 18,000 tickets for their U23's clash against Manchester City this evening. The young Whites currently sit in 12th place (out of 14) but are four points clear of Chelsea, who have a game in hand (only the bottom two go down). Andrew Taylor, who took over from Mark Jackson, when Jacko was promoted to first team affairs last month, will need the crowd to act as a 12th man, if they are to get anything out of a City team who have only lost four times this season, and top the league.

In the reverse fixture, back in November, Leeds lost 3-2 against their Lancashire neighbours. This proves to be an exciting encounter. The game kicks off at 7pm.

    Whites linked to Spurs reject

Various Sporting media outlets have suggested that Leeds may be lining up a bid for Spurs reject Joe Rodon. The 24yo joined Tottenham from Swansea City for 11m back in the 2020 Summer transfer window, but has found life in the top flight difficult. This season, he has only made one top flight appearance under Antonio Conte, and has become surplus to requirements.

At 6ft 4' Rodon would offer valuable height to the Leeds team. Leeds have the worst defensive record in the division, both defensively, and heading, though I'm not sure Rodon is the answer. Leeds back line (Ayling, Cooper, Llorente and Firpo) all share birthdays in August, by which time their average age will be 29.

There are strong rumours, linking Leeds with a move for Aberdeen right back Calvin Ramsay. The 18yo is likely to cost 6m upwards, and will probably not be ready for first team action for a while, whilst he adjusts to life in the top flight. If Leeds do pursue him, where would that leave Drameh?

Leeds to miss out on Blackburn ace

Leeds United are set to miss out on Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz this summer. The 23yo Chile International has been on Leeds radar for a while, yet no formal approach has ever been made, and it is now feared they may have missed the boat. Brereton has been in dazzling form in the Championship, finding the back of the net 21 times so far this season. This achievement is even more staggering when you consider he has missed most of 2022 with an ankle injury.

Media reports have suggested that La Liga outfit Sevilla are closing in on his signature. It is thought that a fee of 20m - 25m would be enough to persuade Rovers to part with their star asset.

Joe Rodon a CB, who does he replace, Cooper, Koch, Llorente, Struijk, Cresswell? Only if we are selling a couple and then you need to ask is he good enough

Now is the time to take points away from London. We have had our run of poor results.

Chill out. Jesse can only use the tools available to him. Tools that have been amassed and fine tuned over past five seasons. Irrelevant how impressive we've been or not in last four games, we got ten points. That's all that matters. There's been enough clear improvement to indicate well get another six at least before season end and well be long safe with that.

Our last 6 games (if Watford are included) in London have wielded 2 wins, a draw (which we won on penalties) and 3 losses. Half of the time we get something.

Only lost 1 game in London this year.

We've never won at Exeter. Hope we never play them again, we've no chance.

We've played more than 21 games in London. Why have you chosen that sample size? Is it because it fits the narrative?

We've played Palace 7 times at Selhurst Park. Both teams have won 3 and one game a draw.

Played Palace 5 times in the PL with us winning 3.

We've only beaten Palace twice in the last 10 years.

See how stats can murky the waters?
