I'm naturally frustrated with how the season has panned out since January however the playoffs are still a possibility and on that basis I would prefer to see where we finish first as the target was clearly a playoff place. My vote to keep him is predicated upon my belief that we would not secure the services of a 'better' manager. Under Warburton we have made solid progress and I the thought of another complete overhaul tires me
It shouldn’t be another complete overhaul though. As I’ve droned on about endlessly, Les and Ramsey set the footballing style, ethos and strategy of this club. The first team coach is a coach, not a manager, with input to transfers etc rather than running the whole thing, like in the old days. Les and Ramsey should have identified coaches that they think will fit into their way of doing things. We might never have heard of some of them. If we can find an unknown like Graham Potter was in 2011, managing in the Swedish fourth division, that would do nicely. If you don’t think our executive team is capable of finding someone with at least the potential to be a better coach than Warburton, then our problem doesn’t lie only with who is the coach of the first team. To be honest I don’t know if they are capable, but Ramsey is a highly respected UEFA coach who at least used to be on the panel which assessed candidates for the highest coaching qualifications. At the very least he has seen a lot of ambitious young coaches first hand, and in a position where he has to make a judgement on them.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I never thought Ramsey got a fair shot, and that was at a time when the club was still very unstable. Personally I'd like to see what he could do in a more stable period, with the club focused on developing younger players. I doubt he'd want to do it after his last experience, so likely a moot point.
His first game, or first away game, in charge at Sunderland, which we won 2-0, was a dream, we played beautiful football. But Fernandes was going on about getting his ‘dream manager’ (Paul Clement? Bullet dodged) which is hardly confidence boosting, Certainly reckon he would be an ideal caretaker if we have a long search for a manager, but perhaps as you say he wants a youth development and technical director role rather than all the **** which goes with being in the spotlight.
I would let him move on,he's a spent force imo. Maybe the pol should have included Les Ferdinand being shown the door as the recruitment has been absolutely diabolical.
"Recruitment ... absolutely diabolical"? Really? Eze 20 million banked, Willock, Chair, BOS, Dieng, Dickie, Dunne, Barbet, Field, Moses, Albert, Amos, Dykes, Dozzell, Jordi and probably more all under Les I think. There have some good loan signings in his time too.
Dunne, Field permanent, Moses, Dozzell, time will tell but they certainly don't look diabolical now. Austin and Johansen didnt look diabolical when they were done too anyone I remember either.
I meant the loan deals for this season ! Moses is pretty **** if truth be told and Dozell looks like a league 1 player to be fair who's lated on a few decent passes but always seems to be way off the pace. Field and Dunne were good acquisitions.
Whether they all work out is to be seen. But we all know that transfers and loans are a numbers game Hammersmith … some work, some don’t … you hope to get more of the former than the latter. It’s no different at every club across the world. Focusing on the latter is a mugs game.
Head above the barricade. Don't think moses is that bad. And think loanee McCallum is good. Pity about their injuries
Moses is pathetic at crossing and has injury problems, yes McCallum is decent going forward but has alot to learn defensively, but his injury record is on a par with Keiron Dyer's. If Norwich are relegated he'll be playing for them next season anyway.
That's fair enough but I don't think any of this season's loans have been a success. Some have sparkled in a few games but overall they've been very disappointing. Too many have had injury problems and others were poor judgement by us.
I think the loans have been ok too, not great. MaCallum promising but injured a lot. Norwich will probably want him back otherwise he'd be good to keep. Same with Sanderson, looks very good, but had one bad game and a red card. He's still young and hopefully is learning from these. Wolves a PL Club will probably want to keep him or possibly extend his loan. Hendrick looks Ok as well but at his age doubt we'll want to keep him, at least if Johansen can step up again next season. Dozzell is coming along quite well in that position too.
Moses imo is by far the best WB/FB at the Club, plays both right and left, has more pace than anyone else at the Club, and is very talented. His crossing has often been good from both sides, he made Chair's goal at Huddersfield last week with one from the right. We should be extending his contract ASAP before one of our rivals makes a good offer and steals him for nothing. Same with Barbet.
I wouldn’t call Moses pathetic - very harsh. He’s had injuries for sure, but he can make an impact on a game when on form. That said his form is up and down (though you could say that about most of our defensive line). McCallum shows promise, he’d only improve through game time and experience - which is why Norwich have sent him out on loan I’m sure - potential in there for sure.
Very good interview with Warbs on the Open All Rs podcast this week, just under 40minutes, covering many topics, including player recruitment and retention, the financial stability of the club, team selection and substitutions, and aspirations for the remainder of this season and next season (you don't get the impression that he's heading anywhere...) https://open.spotify.com/episode/21YZwyg1Timzs9Ve3u6r6X?si=EZdZ153USXmBraVB8cTuFA Link updated - thanks @SW Ranger
Sort of go along with your thinking mate but inevitably the ageing players will leave, good players will be snapped up and loanees will return to their clubs. Another overhaul will be forced upon us, holding the core squad together is not in the clubs hands I fear. We are a selling club
