My daughter and I have a WhatsApp thread where we send each other photos of that pesky apostrophe in leaflets and on signs, etc. She's a real pedant, goodness knows where she gets it from.
Mito's posts are fun. Not knowing that the plural of a word doesn't need an apostrophe, amuses nobody.
I think, or I like to believe, that most of the spelling/grammar mistakes on here are due to: Phones, Autocorrect, and lack of previewing before posting and not that MIto doesn't know about apostrophes.
My daughter is the same, even going into a grocers and telling them it should be "JONES' GROCERS" above their shop not "JONES'S GROCERS", she was about 8 at the time.
What is really annoying is when posters do not use the Oxford comma, use it or lose it is what I say!!
Maybe it’s an age thing, but unless the spelling mistake or wrong bit of grammar dramatically changes the meaning of the word/sentence and you can’t work out the correct meaning then **** it, makes no real difference.
I agree with that and would go along with all of it except for the fact that neither predictive text nor Autocorrect would ever give 'tomato's' as a possibility. Just to prove my point, my phone didn't want me to type 'tomato's'.
Oxford comma is not actually required or considered preferred in situations where the meaning is clear.
My favourite autocorrect is that Everton always gets corrected to everyone. Even Google keyboard has never heard of them.
On a rare break from club duties during Liverpool’s ridiculous end-of-season run, Jurgen Klopp and Vitor Matos made a visit to Jurgen’s Bierhaus in the city. Klopp is in the midst of arguably the busiest period of his career as a manager, with Liverpool still battling for silverware in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. please log in to view this image Jurgen Klopp visits Liverpool pub named after him – arriving on the team bus!
I make lots of mistakes and my predictive text has come up with some howlers. I don't really care that some people don't know the difference between your and you're or their/there/they're but not knowing that the plural of words doesn't require an apostrophe, I find bizarre.
the issue i have is 3 fold a) the phone keyboard is very very annoying. it puts a . where actually the spacebar ought to be to key with right thumb. i can't change it either. b) autocorrect seems to be half on and half off randomly. I can't get this to resolve itself either c) a lot of distractions so you can just plain hit post without even trying to notice minor infractions.
Suttree by Cormack McCarthy is lined up next, I seem to have a load of books I haven't read at the moment.
