As a lot of my time these days is spent watching tv I’m considering taking out a streaming service. At the moment Netflix or Sky Films (I’ve already got Sky “Entertainment” and Sport) are the front runners. I prefer good documentaries, old comedy shows, and films. I’d value the opinions of lads and lasses on here who have either got a stream supplier (I think that’s what they are called) or had one. Cost is not an issue.

I quite like Netflix, but we don't get all the same programs that you get in the UK

Netflix all day long over Sky, much bigger variety. I also have Disney Plus and that comes with Discovery Plus if you're mainly after docs. But I'd still plump for Netflix.

Some of the films that are made now I could do better with a box brownie.<laugh> I only watch films with 4stars + and most of them are utter gash, god knows what a film is like with 2 stars. On the plus side they keep a lot of crap actors in work.

Amazon prime is getting better and better imo. Used to be fairly limited a year or two ago.

Have you tried Talking Pictures on Sky channel 328 if you like old films.
They mainly show B/W going back to the 1940s then more up to date.
It's our go to channel for a bit of nostalgia.

Great programmes on most days anyway

If cost is not an issue, get 3 of them, Netflix seems to have the biggest offering atm, I can always find a series to binge on or a movie to watch.

Amazon is catching up with Netflix with content and it also has some football and other sports.

Disney also is growing its content but it is really just for the g'kids to watch, they even have a 'princess' option.

Netflix is a brilliant service in my opinion. Puts sky to shame I think (although we still have sky for sports). I like true crime documentaries and some of what they have is brilliant. Also Amazon Prime I think is very decent and getting better. I think the problem it has is navigating it is hard work and annoys my family because it has paid content as well which can seem frustrating, but there is loads of good content for prime members. Brit box is supposed to be decent for old british tv but never tried it.

Tried Apple TV on a free 3 month trial and didnt like it. Seemed quite limited to me but did have some unique content.

I tend to agree. The worst for me are when the so-called actors mumble and whisper. Watched one the other night and the Heroine didn’t even whisper - she sort of breathed her words. Even MI5 wouldn’t be able decipher what was being said. Thank heaven for sub-titles!

I’ve watched a few on the same channel on terrestrial. Some of them are nearing 100 years old but the speech is clearer than modern stuff.

I have all 3. To be honest there is too much to watch but there is some brilliant stuff across prime and netflix. Disney is more for the kids but there is also good stuff I just don't have the time to get into stuff on there aswell.

One thing to think about Sandy is what you mean by old comedies and films?

I feel like Netflix are more for pushing their own shows and films so might not have what you want but if you are willing to give the new stuff a try there is some brilliant series out there.

Why don't you sign up for each of them on a free trial period and give them a go. Or even if you sign up on monthly subscription I'm sure you can cancel anytime.

Couldn't agree more about this. I am 36 years old and have perfectly fine hearing and watch with subtitles as there is always several words that I can't make out because it is mumbled!
