Afternoon all, just wanted your view on how important to our season this Saturday's game at home to Peterborough is. It's been a poor start to the season, with constant chopping and changing, and much criticizing of tactics, which saw us slip into the relegation zone on Saturday. What happens if we lose, do you think it would be time for Dyche to be jump/be pushed? How much more time would you give him if we lost on Saturday? What would happen if we draw or won? Look forward to your views, it could be a very nervous Saturday...
I think most people see this as that ol' cliché, a 'must win game'. I don't. Personally, in truth, though i would always predict a Watford win with my heart, for this match, i just can't see us winning. The only thing we have in our favour is that our defence is fairly strong, because they have an incredibly strong attack. They let in goals, but for every one scored, they're capable of scoring 2 in return. So if our forwards are on the ball, we could be okay. As for the Dyche 'situation', win or lose, i don't think he'll go after this one. I think the call for him to go if we lose will be stronger, but i still believe it would be the wrong thing to do at this stage. It will be nervous, it's a 'kids for a quid' day so the signs are all there for a defeat..but i believe we're getting better, and that Dyche is the man to take us forward. Ask me again at Christmas!
Saturday is very important. We really need to finalise the wedding invites so they are ready to post next week. They are already late as it is. However, it is Luke's first birthday as well. He lives (with his parents) an hours drive away, and the party starts at 1pm. Some people may say, "aah, if you miss it, don't worry. According to current statistics, he will have approximately 79 birthdays, so ensuring you also reach this life expectancy, that means 55 opportunities in the future to celebrate the anniversary of his birth". However, the first birthday is often the most significant (they can now have candles on their birthday cake, you can get cool presents....the significance is mind blowing), so it is imperative we get the invites sorted in the morning. Oh...this is football related. My bad.
I think Saturday is to ignore. We are having a family day http://www.watfordfc.com/page/MatchbyMatch/0,,10400~2466064,00.html so we have lost already. Brighton and Hove Albion is the match to worry about
Yep Kids for a quid good team or bad team ,can Sean do the job or not , all pales into insignificance because its kids for a quid and we all know that we dont win those! I dont get this we have a strong defence lark either have you seen our GD!
This season is hard to bare.....in fact this is the first season where I dread going to every game knowing that we will probably lose. In past seasons we have been better.....we may have flirted with relegation but we always competed. I am fairly pleased with the signings Dyche has made....he doesn't have a big budget but has brought in a few players. They need time to settle.....though I hope not too long. I think we have a chance against Peterborough...they are a very hit or miss team in this league.....so on a good day for us we could get a result.
To me when I see comments like 'Posh, can't see us getting a result against them' tells me we've fallen a long way in the last 18 months or so. Would we have been saying that 18 months ago? No. The other thing that gets me is 'We're getting better, look at the improved performance against Hull.' Go back to our first game of the season against Burnley, 2-0 up after 70 mins, what a great start, since then we've gone steadily downhill with a couple of false dawns. I'd love to be proved wrong but at this moment in time I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel. I don't see the purpose of a midfield, every time we clear our defence the midfield is by-passed...long punt upfield! I won't say who I'm referring to I think you all know who I'm referring to. COYH prove me wrong on Saturday...I'll be the first to say I'm wrong PS Thompson is back from Brentford, put him straight in.
If it wasn't a family day game I think we might have won it but we just don't ever win those. Last week I said let's see what happens from the next four games and this is game two. I don't think he'll go from a bad result on Saturday but we can't keep on like this forever, even if we have genuinely been unlucky a few times this season!
The reason i say we won't get a result against Posh is that even when they were crap and we weren't, they got six points from us. They're much more organised now, and we never beat them...bogie team ahoy!
Indeed, Saturday is needed to constitute a week To the football, getting a general feeling of pessimism. Lose to Peterborough and i think the crowd is really going to turn against Dyche, and that reversal of negative feeling is quite hard to achieve. I like Dyche, and want to give him time, but hes been sounding too negative in his post-match comments and there is a general lack of confidence in the squad, with the likes of Loach and Sordell getting dropped in recent weeks. Desperately hoping for a positive result, and good luck to the yellow order with their 5 minute protest about the new EPPP rules!
I think it should be a massive game for SD. If we lose he has to get the boot. But this is Watford and no doubt he will be given more money to waste. I doubt we have signed 2 more uninspiring players in a week on loan. One striker who has a goal record of about 4 a season (fits in well with the other useless lumps we have up front) and a Defender who we have all laughed at over the years playing for other clubs.... What SD should have done was put in the youngsters, least they will have a bit of pace and hunger. if we let in the first goal Sat then I fear we will crumble....
As usual I will get behind the team on Saturday but the team has given us so little to cheer this season that it will be tough to get enthused after the usual 10 minutes "bright start". We are not known for having the loudest home support so when there is nothing to cheer at all it gets rather embarrassing. Not sure SD will last to Tuesday if we lose to Peterborough. That prospect will mean a strained and nervous crowd which will inevitably affect the team.
