I don’t even know why the comparison’s between Bowen and KLP have to be made. They’re both good players who’ve come through our academy that’ll both make us a fortune at one point or another. Both broke through at different stages of the club, so in reality it’s unfair to compare them. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but it’s abit odd how you’re trying to play down on of our own’s achievements outside the club.
Feels to me that this is an interesting debate about how good KLP already is, how he might improve etc, and been well argued on both sides. Hope it doesn't descend into a playground spat!
Already into playground spat territory, it's when it gets to Silver Cod car park the fun really starts.
dunno just pointing out he said KLP was only picked for England as others weren't available, but also said Longman's stats were better than KLP's so I was curious why he thought Longman wasn't picked instead
KLP has a lot of potential without doubt, but as I've mentioned here before Bowen had similar but he worked on his weaknesses to become a better all round player, first his right foot then his heading, he has improved since he left us playing with better quality players and I'm sure if KLP follows suit by working hard on his game then he will do exactly the same. But at this point KLP is nowhere near what Bowen was when he left.
Are people assuming KLP isn't working on improving because they don't see any improvement or is it something else ? I have no idea what he's like in training and not sure how other people would know unless they were there themselves.
Has anyone even suggested that? Given the fact Bowen left when he was 23 as well. He’s got 2 years yet.
And as it stands he is nowhere near the finished article, hence my point when some posters rave about him, the lad has potential, obvs as recognised by his call up, but at this stage thats all it is, good player that could become very good with work. At the same age Bowen wasn't flailing his arms around each time things didnt come off either.
Bowen wasn’t expected to be the player who pulled us through every game in terms of goals either though. Being annoyed something hasn’t come off isn’t a bad thing even if it’s visible either, I don’t know why it would be. He’s played every minute not being challenged for his place, any player in that position would dip in and out of form in those circumstances. Howden summed it up perfectly for both him and Greaves when both are surrounded by better players next season we’ll see how good they really are.
With a bit of luck he will follow in Bowens footsteps with season on season improvement, but when he is flailing his arms around it isnt only about things that he tries that don't come off, seen it a number of times directed to other players. I appreciate that can be interpreted as passion, but it can also be interpreted as petulance.
Demanding higher standards from your teammates shouldn’t be seen as petulance. An example of that would be like when Wilks refused to give Magennis the penalty last season and was giving it handbags to Coyle.
Time and a place.. being petulant on a footy pitch only gives the opposition encouragement. Akin to Wilks.
It never goes beyond that on the pitch, if a player can’t do a simple pass they should be told accordingly. If a player shoots when they should square it they should be told. They’re professionals not kids. McLoughlin ****ing screamed at him and Fleming against Boro right after that save by Ingram at the end. Nowt came of it afterwards he still tries to find him all game in behind with a diagonal ball. But they won’t give the ball away stupidly like that again. The spurs documentary on Amazon showed it, Mourinho said how he loved it when the players started ripping into each other in the changing room because he was starting to question their commitment. If you think it’s bad on the pitch then you’d be shocked how players go into each other behind closed doors.
Trust me I know from my days playing as a pro that I know what goes on behind closed doors, in the changing room and on the pitch, I was one of the worst for it. But flinging your arms around and pulling a face isn't the way to do it. He'll change with experience and maturity I'm sure
