Apparently we only had 31% possession, which I'm surprised at, but Leicester were a good side and countered very dangerously, it's so satisfying to be beating teams like this. It wasn't a great game but I enjoyed it, I was there and the atmosphere at times was awesome. There was some great last ditch defending that saved us and we are proving that we deserved to be in this division and it's insane to think we could literally finish 9 or 10th this season. What a turn around. Also - Leicester fans were winding out supporters up during the game, and to see them all pissed off at the end and almost fights breaking out near the away end lololl Great rekt scrubsssss Ratings - Durbravka - 7 Krafth - 7.5 - Got caught out a bit at times, but mostly solid defending. Schar - 5 - He's a bit shakey at the moment, plenty of errors, not bad though. Burn - 8 - Solid. Targett - 8 Joelinton - 7 - Hard working performance, **** in the final third, but good display everywhere else. Bruno - 10 - Haven't given a 10 for a while but holy **** - Maybe the best player I've seen us have since the mid 2000's. Great defending, great interceptions, great tackles, great passing, good positioning, two goals and sealed all 3 points for us. Anyone who wouldn't rate him a 10 is smoking some seriously ****. Shelvey - 6 - Decent passing. Good on the ball, **** without it. ASM - 5 - Good runs and dribbles, but mostly wasteful final balls unfortunately. Wood - 5- Not much service. Put in a shift but that's about it. Almiron - 8 - Great display. Murphy - 6 - OK. Willock - 7 - We miss his energy when he doesn't play. He makes great runs with the ball. Good assist. Gayle - n/a.
Cheers guys, after 4 days in this place with no sign of being released, I think I'm going stir crazy, but, I've had a good laugh today...
Leaving the game i felt like they were the better side overall but then i looked at the stats and we had like twice as many shots as them, so i don't really know, nor care. We win.
I've just seen Bruno's post match. The guy's a ledge. He just seems so down to earth. You get the feeling he came to us because he knows we are a proper club and the fans will love him if he does the business on the pitch. You've got to say though Howe and team need a lot of credit. They've completely changed the mindset of the team. I think we've had a good bunch of lads for a while but just lacked a proper leader. Of course we need more quality to compete high up the league but it's great to see a team that can keep their heads in games.
Strange one if you judge on stats. on one hand we only had 1/3 rd possession, but then we had twice as many attempts on goal and 7 vs 2 attempts 'on target'. So who do you say deserves to win, the team who 'controlled' the game possession wise, or the team who had most attempts. I say who gives a fook, we won! Toon, Toon.
Eddie is a top manager, cant believe how quick some on here are to dish out the Bruce comparisons if we lose a game. The turn around under Howe is incredible. We were absolute dog before he turned up, for years. Medal needed, ASAP.
For much of the game I felt a bit nervous and was regularly critical of our shots / headers on their goal - as most were poor. The accuracy of either Wood's header, ASM's shots, Miggy's, Joelinton's or Burn's efforts, were all poor - either off target or such tame efforts that Schmeichel easily stopped them. The service to Wood was essentially non-existant, as ASM and Almiron got few crosses in, and Wood was our only player in the box to target. So while our general play was yeilding the odd effort, our forward players' shots seemed too inept to profit with a goal from them. Leicester were clearly a good side, so I could accept that they were skilled at breaking up attacks. As the game wore on I felt that a point gained wasn't so bad as a sign of progress. Then Willock and Bruno settled the issue with a move of great style at the end. We clearly defended well enough, fought with reasonable success in midfield, but forced few saves from their keeper. I thought that we tried too many long passes that went straight to a Leicester player and gave them possession. We missed a good Fraser or good ASM. Our heading near goal was ineffective bar the last one. On the other hand, Leicester are a good side and we beat them.
3 of those 7 were Bruno having 3 stabs at putting the ball in though weren't they? Who cares though, we won. Will feel better when it's beyond any doubt but we are safe
Actually thought Shelvey had a very good game yesterday. Was good in possession and also closed players down well and got in some good interceptions. Looks so much fitter than earlier in the season. Targett and Krafth also both good. Guimares was excellent - all over the place and probably helped Shelvey look better. Almiron had some good touches but his final ball was almost as bad as St Maximin's. I had thought we shouldn't play Wood in this game and play without a centre forward as I felt their centre backs are positionally poor and look all at sea when dragged out of a back line. When he went off the centre of the pitch seemed to open up more for us. Weird 2nd half as we seemed to sit back a bit, but they actually didn't take advantage of it.
