What sort of error exactly is more catastrophic than conceding a goal… in particular if your primary job is defending? What do you want, a different word? Disastrous? Incompetent? Weak? It was very very poor from Gibson, whether he’s up against Ronaldo or not premier league quality Hanley (I don’t know if they’ve ever played against each other). In other words, this is a silly, pointless argument, over whether one clear and obvious error leading to a goal is worse than an other. Both were Gibson’s fault. Both you can be damn sure Smith won’t be saying “oh never mind, it’s Ronaldo”. Not will Gibson to be honest. And I’m really sorry to flag, but neither were Hanley’s fault who has been sensationally good so far. I get that is painful for you and you won’t admit it.
Was it a “catastrophic” error from Krul do you think?…. Anyway, how on earth was that not a clear foul on Rowe???
Really weak and poor from Gilmour with pretty much our last chance of the game. A decent performance all told, extremely unlucky with the errors from Gibson, but it doesn’t really matter now anyway and plenty to be pleased about in the performance. Ball at feet I really think we were the better team today.
We all know it, Gilmour shouldn’t play for us again, Rupp and Sorensen are both better for us. He offers nothing, careless passing, unless he’s playing a 1-2 with a centre back
Krul got both hands to it and deflected it onto the post. Had it gone out off the outside of the post it would have been a great save. It's a game of inches sometimes. Pity about Gibson's mistake, but that aside it was a cracking game and we created and scored two great goals.
Agreed. Krul had a decent game. I know McClean was anonymous, but given how our shape went after he was substituted for Gilmour, I feel like that was a tactical error from Smith.
McLean had a bit of a limp as he went off but Gilmour's performance was poor except for one long cross field pass.
Ah thanks, I didn’t spot that. To be fair to Gilmour you could argue that he was unlucky to come on just as they scored and their tails went up. But his unforced errors were inexcusable and I was surprised he took over free kicks and corners because we looked more dangerous before that.
Smith's substitutions didn't help either. I know that Dowell was looking like he had nothing left in the tank, but Placheta has nothing between his ears. When Rowe was available, or even Tzolis, why not put one of them on? And McLean looked like he had picked up a knock, but what's Gilmour got that Sorensen hasn't (other than a contract, perhaps, that says we have to pay more for him the fewer games he plays)? Even in his brief cameo, his performance was a litany of mistakes, stray passes, and useless dead balls. EDIT: Or Rupp, if you want the keep exactly the same formation.
Yes, sorry what I mean is that the goal wasn’t his fault and he basically only was just on the pitch when we had conceded, so it’s not like the mistakes he made contributed to their goal.
