No It doesn’t, but it highlights the appalling standard of refereeing in the PL. As long as it goes unpunished teams will continue to do it. The number of players using the head injury protocol to break up the game is getting beyond a joke. The rule makers need to introduce sanctions to stop it. Goalkeepers currently seem yo only get a yellow for their 99th offence in the 89th minute with very little chance of getting another. Perhaps if they lost possession of the ball after their third and all subsequent offences they would play within the rules. If every player claiming a head injury had to leave the pitch for minutes not seconds. If it is serious it is the right thing to do. Fakers would reduce the players on the pitch for their team. Those with more serious injuries will have time to be properly checked before being substituted or returning to the pitch.
Very bad day at the office today and definitely one that exposes the lack of options Conte has on the bench to change the game. We never looked on it and in particular our midfield were not able to cope with Brighton, though nobody was passing particularly well. Credit to Brighton too who were one it from the kickoff and pressed very well. Dust ourselves off and go again, I guess.
My worry with Spurs next season is that the team will be playing twice a week (likely Europa or CL) and that is a problem under Conte. It was no surprise the results improved (mostly) once the team exited Europe and FA Cup. Today was worrying because the team had all week to prepare. One thing with Conte I’m not confident in, is that he can handle fighting on more than one front. He seems to be the sort of manager who likes to rely on the same 12-15 players but these days that’s not enough.
But not with Conte who was absent due to COVID! But I agree with the your assertion about playing twice a week.
You are one of the worse people that always has to find a reason that we lost other than we played badly. Just get over it mate!
I said at the start of my , ‘no it doesn’t’.My post was about teams in general breaking up the games and with suggestions on possible solutions. Today it is not why we lost. We just did not turn up and even Conte was very subdued.
Performance? ****. Players? ****. Manager? ****. Officials? ****. That was utterly pathetic. Main issue? Conte being utterly married to one system and refusing to change it, no matter what. Appalling management. We don't have any fit wingbacks in the starting XI, so why play a system reliant on wingbacks? Then failing to change that system, despite it obviously not working? Stupid. **** like-for-like subs and leaving Bergwijn until the game was gone was just dumb. The team looked totally out of sorts and changes were needed. We stuck with the same bullshit system and tactics and threw it away. Whoever allowed Kane to piss off halfway round the world for a golf tournament needs a kick in the balls, too. Completely selfish behaviour from the player, but also ****ing stupid from whoever agreed to it.
Looked fine in person. Their 3rd kit would've made it very clear, though: please log in to view this image
Nosedived from what? We were **** before that. Moura got sent on into the middle to try and win headers, as far as I can tell. The centre-halves played a number of high balls to Son with his back to goal and he simply won't head it. No idea who thought that would be a good idea.
We just don't draw matches do we late goals be they winners or losers always seem to happen in our matches , we have won as many as Chelsea but lost 5 more!
I’m blaming Conte for this dismal match. Today was a day when we ought to have changed tactics and formation. We didn’t need to have 5 defenders on the pitch and could have done with an extra man in midfield.
Well thanks to arsenal we got away with that. Let’s hope lessons learned all round and that’s the result they need to refocus after seemingly taking their foot off the pedal this week with jaunts to America and birthday parties for players who don’t even play for us.
Overall Conte has improved the team Pros Fitter A settled formation Settled personnel Good signings brought in Cons Lack of adaptability/flexibility Some players not good enough for the level competing at Still a question mark over commitment/ determination when things not going their way
Agree with this. The team had been totally ineffective, particularly Kulu, who has been on fire last few weeks - and as others have said, he could easily have got a red card himself. Kane and Son were totally anonymous, Bentancur and Hojbjerg pissed about and failed to press and Reggie gave Lamptey an easy afternoon. I started to count the passes between Dier and Romero, but fell asleep after the first hundred... So blaming Moura would seem to be a strange take...he just seemed to fit in with the general (poor) standard displayed for the first 60 minutes.
I agree in a way but the problem is that extra man in midfield would’ve been Winks, so we would’ve been ****ed either if way.
I definitely wouldn’t blame Lucas (or even Winks despite how much I despise him) for the loss, it’s just more to the point of what King and I said earlier in that if they’re the players you’re bringing on with the hope of changing a game, you’re pretty much ****ed. This then goes back to the point of summer strengthening though, if we get one of Bale/ Dybala/ Martinez and then someone like Eriksen/ a creator, our squad looks so much better and we’d have quality options in our side to really change a game or rotate in the XI to avoid player burnout
Not one player today performed better than a 6 and most were 5's but my god our wingbacks are shocking. Every Spurs fan and his dog knows Emerson is a poor player and not a RWB but Reguilon has been poor for a long time now and I just don't see what he brings to the table. When he first signed I thought we had got a real talent there but all i see now is a player who just throws himself to the floor at every opportunity. His defending isn't great and he offers nothing going forward. Just not good enough. We desperately need a top RWB and LWB for next season, keep Doherty and Sessegnon ias back up and the other two need to go. I honestly believe two top wingbacks will transform this team. Our bench is so weak and IF we do get champions league footie next season (I still believe we will nick it) major surgery is needed on this squad.
The main difference between the Villa and Brighton matches is that Villa couldn't commit to 90 minutes of spoiler tactics to try and nick the game at the death as they were 1-0 down in the 3rd minute so had to come forward at some point to try and get back into it, Brighton on the other hand had the luxury (for lack of a better term) of committing to those tactics for as long as they needed to Also, keeping the ball is easy when you sap the opponent's momentum without even having the ball. Case in point in around the 60th minute one of their players went off with a knock (insert inverted commas where you see fit) but instead of heading straight for the touchline he walked the long way round the pitch, giving his teammates a minute to rest and regroup while also denying us the chance to get the ball moving until he'd finished his tour of the stadium - and there's a reason I bring this up, as it did come up a month or two ago that Southampton similarly do this, where a player gets injured (again, feel free to use inverted commas if you wish) in or around the 60th minute and that sees the rest of the outfield players jog off to the touchline for a drinks break That's the thing with timewasting tactics: as they piss off the opponents, the opponents are more likely to make mistakes, as demonstrated by some of our haphazard passing today - which wasn't the case against Villa, because once the second half started they had to throw everything at us and we picked them off, but today that wasn't happening today as there was no reason for Brighton to commit forward unless they wanted to The obvious difference was that, while it can be said that Deki had a rough game, at least it appeared that we had a plan - but when Lucas came on any plan went out the window, as Lucas was misplacing passes as much to the linesman as he was to the opposition, and that's when the 'Nam flashbacks to January-March 2021 started in earnest On the subject of Lucas, one thing that does have to be said is that he has been disappointing lately, because if you recall this time last season he had a Lamela-like workrate so was at the very least creating things by working his backside off for the team, but recently he's reverted to the Brazilian Andros Townsend he was in the 2019-20 season, which is why there's plenty of grousing abotu him getting half an hour yet Bergwijn, who at the very least can be expected to take his man on, got five minutes No, it does not even itself out, because that's not true: Mwepu could've gone off but instead was subbed off at half time for somebody who could kick us for the entire second half; Cucurella could kick us with impunity for 90 minutes because Pawson was in "Manage the game" mode as if it was a pre-season friendly, and that evens itself out as much as how a Fraudiola team take it in turns to hack down players until one player gets booked for it in the 78th minute Compare that to the Middlesbrough game where it's likely that we wouldn't have scored even if we bribed all the officials and the Boro goalkeeper, that's a limp performance from us that is entirely on us and only us, not on
