Was discussing this in the pub after the game - his role has changed since Neil was appointed. He has a simpler screening role where there are fewer demands when he's in possession. He excels in that role and was a huge miss today. The role Johnson had him playing, where he was required to take the ball from the centre halves and distribute it to our attacking players, which led to him often being cowardly in possession was not playing to his strengths
For most of the season he has been a passenger in the side , he no longer has the speed and acceleration to take on the opposition and the amount of times he hits the first man is a massive concern . On the other hand I have a lot of faith in Alex Neil and he must see something in what he does that most of the fans don’t . He had so much potential that he has not fulfilled so its so frustrating but as I said he is a passenger in most peoples opinion hence the cheering when he was taken off , not nice for him but understandable given his performance . Come on Goochie nothing would give the fans greater pleasure than to see you reverse your demise , the Manager trusts you now convince the fans by turning your form round .
Scenes in the stands at the end, so so good that. Mad game. In complete control with two early goals and stroking the ball around well. Start to get a bit sloppy and complacent before half time but survive. I expected them to push on up til 60 mins but we completely **** ourselves, obviously Flanagan scored. Shaping up to be another one of those afternoons. Credit after that, we settled and started to get back on the front foot. Shrews seemed to stop coming forward once they equalised but tbh at that point if they'd have shown more killer instinct they'd have probably had us. Familiar pattern after that, chucking the famed Gillingham kitchen sink at it without that bit of luck, Stewart hits the bar and a couple of good stops from their keeper, a potential penna on L09 that the ref booked him for (officials f***ing dreadful mind). Before that winner, good cross, Broadhead drifting off the back of the defender to get the flick and the keeper makes a right knackers of it and the stands erupt. Ended up on my back pinned on an old ladies knee with the lads behind two rows forward and my dad a row forward too!
I think Gooch is in the team due to a lack of alternatives. I love the daft little radgie but it's time he moved on
Lets be honest, do we deserve to go up???? Do we feck. 3 last minute winners in a row on top of yet another Jekly and hyde performance sums us up. Painful
10 years from now, you will look at the results and see 3 wins out of 3. The rest is background noise
Something I've taken from "over the road", is it seems to be very damaging. Now and again I look on the oppositions non 606 forum and everymite, they seem to think we're self entitled dickheads with big club syndrome. And every time it's "Just has a look on there forum", meaning over the road. Very rarely do they have a good word to say about us due to the disrespect shown toward their "smaller" club. I can't understand why more football fans from other clubs aren't regularly on 606.
Do Plymouth deserve to go up after scoring one goal in their last four games, none in their last two. Do Rotherham deserve to go up having lost 3-0 at home to our opponents today and failing to score in their last three. Surely scoring late goals, and winning games, is better than not scoring at all ... ... a last minute winner at Wembley would mean we deserved it more than our opponents.
Obviously playing unnecessarily ****e for spells isn't ideal, but I always think a team that regularly scores last minute goals is worthy of respect. Do we deserve to go up? I'm not sure, we're inconsistent and we buggered up replacing Johnson. I definitely wouldn't say we don't deserve it though, we're winning games at the business end of the season and we've got a manager who will do his absolute best to make it happen for us. We're not bottling it, I'd say the opposite is true.
From the Plymouth forum tonight ... "Woeful and if we can’t do better than that, we don’t deserve to go up."
when he came on i honestly thought he was not what we needed at the time, although i usually have time for him but did not think he was right as captain but i felt he gave the lads confidence and they started to try to play a bit and improved as the game wore on. not sure if the cheers were for gooch going off or roberts coming on but was not a good game from gooch, i think he had the beating of the left back and when he went past him he crossed the ball better (no fecker in front to hit, probably) but needs to lift his game. matete/embo/niel as it stands i think only one should start, i think they cancel each other out when two or more are on the pitch... would love to be proved wrong mind as there is a wealth of talent there, hopefully AN will find the best way to get that talent out in the right way and they start to compliment each others game. last word, camera angle looked very much like the defender went for the tackle, missed the ball and tripped onien...anyone get a clear view from the stands? edit: just seen the RR player ratings, not sure which game they watched but they gave onien a 5 and basically said he was not involved...in the first half while we were in total control he was 'the one' always there for a pass and kept the move flowing, not sure what happened but he slipped out of the game until evans came on then he went back to doing what he does best, just breaking play up and being there to keep the ball moving, as i said earlier it was not a stand out game for him but he kept us ticking over at times.
Unbeaten in 10 of 11. 6 wins and 4 draws. Can I ask how good those around us look when they play?a just as to whether they are playing any better than us? Wycombe for instance? Rotherham? Using your yardstick, who “deserves” to go up as I’ve not seen anyone in this division good for any sustained period. We are a form team, on a great run. The rest is semantics and, therefore, completely irrelevant. Man Utd won the league on “playing until the final whistle” so many last minute winners it was unreal. They were lauded for it. We do it and it’s somehow not good enough?
