Good question, personally I'd see it as a declaration of war if they went and attacked Finland. I can see both sides claims over the Ukraine, I can see no Russian claims where Finland is concerned, but will also admit to not being great with my history. So yeah, I'd see it as provocation of war on Europe and that we would have to intervene. Just a personal opinion like.

If they were bold enough to attack Finland it would probably be just kicking the can down the road as far as eventual war. At the very minimum it would have to be a full proxy war against Russia. Sending all sorts of weaponry to Finland in a way we haven't really done in Ukraine.

Arguments for attacking Finland would be similar to Ukraine. NATO expanding to their border adding another 800 miles of border with NATO and easy missile striking distance. Also, just like Ukraine, Finland has been ruled by Russia in the past. If you want to get full glory days of Russia back, Finland used to be part of Russian empire.

Mate, you asked a scenario, I merely gave you my response to it. I'm not really interested in the rest of it, just saying I would see it as a step too far. We have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and that's where mine would be, whether right or wrong.

Specifically, I was responding to "can't see claims where Finland is concerned". Pretty much just responding to that that they could very easily use the same excuse they did with Ukraine. NATO moving to their border and Finland used to be part of their sphere of influence. (Albeit, not for 80 years now).

I was thinking that just now. It would have to be proxy. They both never want direct confrontation anyway primarily bcos of the potential for it to escalate to nukes. And seeing how effectively the proxy war's worked in Ukraine, then Russia would be mad to get into that **** again.

Russia really has to think of a political solution to the NATO problem on their doorstep but it may already be too late.

I'd just tell Putin, no. Personally I'm mad enough just to nuke the fook out of Moscow, got no time for all this pissing about with him. My views changed towards him once he brought the Nuclear levels into it, I don't take well to those kind of threats and say fook it, bring it on bro. Otherwise we'll all be sitting on our hands, sleeping before we eventually decide to do something.

Nonsense. The reason the railways, to name but one, got privatised was so that investors could get rich off the back of a public service that was underwritten by the taxpayer; privatising the profit, nationalising the risk. An absolute con trick p,ayed on the British people by a previous Tory government. These rotten, amoral, corrupt ****ebags never change, and should not be allowed to have their greasy thieving hands anywhere near the levers of power.

Didn't Virgin trouser £56 million pound profit on the West Coast line but hand back East Coast Mainline including all the debt along with it ?

The total subsidy, in real terms, paid to the railway industry by the taxpayer has risen threefold by 2019 since 1994 privatisation. So, accounting for inflation has the price per ticket per passenger mile traveled. Any ****ing idiot claiming that this was a good deal for the UK should be shot. It's frightening to think what the cost-effective, if not passenger-friendly British Rail could have done with that investment. In 25 years, £20bn of subsidy has been siphoned off in dividends and executive bonuses (Christian Woolmar). It's kleptocracy as epic as the Russian and Kazakh troughfest, but never forget that a Labour government sanctioned this too. Total scandal.

My understanding is that you are not allowed to join NATO while your country is involved in an ongoing conflict, which is part of the reason Ukraine hadn’t joined, due to the conflict in the Donbas since 2014.

I don’t think that they really thought that rule through though, as all Russia needs to do to stop Ukraine joining is to carry on the war with them indefinitely.

Correct. Having lobbied - and probably bribed - the government to hand them the East Coast Mainline, they couldn’t make it pay, so handed both the franchise and the debt back to National Rail, early and without penalty, having first enriched their shareholders.

Scratch the surface and they're scummy as fck. Don't even need to scratch that hard lol

The people who seek power are the people who should never have power.

That's why I support having at least one house picked by sorti (or part of each house picked by sorti) and become a partial sortocracy-democracy-as it was in ancient Athens (only open it to everyone not just the nobles). Best way to kick lobbyists in the nuts, and prevent politics being the playhouse of the wealthy and improve representation and rule by the people.

Instead of jury duty you now have optional parliament duty for a year. (Allow people to turn it down unlike jury duty).
