He got the money but his career, and stock, have taken a real dip. If he would have stayed here and form continued would he have been in contention for the word cup squad?

This one is pure tabloid rumour 101. Just added a bunch of things together to come up with this as well as ignoring the point already mentioned - swap deals almost never happen

They have taken:

- Villa need a DM
- Villa rumoured to be interested in Bissouma
- Brighton need a striker
- Ings has underperformed
- Villa’s system doesn’t really work with Ings and Watkins (except against us)
- Watkins is the better long term prospect
- Villa have been rumoured to be linked with Suarez / other strikers

Mix in a pot and you get this

I’m not certain Ings is a Brighton signing especially if they have to match his Villa terms and pay close to the fee
 
I have not seen it anywhere else but Saints have signed Josh Jeffries a 16 year old goalkeeper from Eastleigh FC.
