Half way through Day 9 here and was cruising until yesterday. Took the kids to the mall and really hard with all the smells of food. Being a moderate Muslim country with 15% other religions all the restaurants stay open but put curtains up so you can't see people eating, just smell the food. The 10year old was struggling as well - said she felt dizzy and could she stop fasting but I persuaded her to continue. Think I get extra points for that. She gets a quid a day for each day she fasts so I was helping her as well. It seems to get easier as you get older as well and helps that we are only fasting from 4.30 - 6.00pm. Pays to live on the equator. Today will be another tough day - have a fitness session from 4-5.30pm with Personal Trainer but at least only have to wait another 30mins for a drink afterwards.
Fair play to you, mate. I have to ask, though, is it healthy for a 10 year old to fast and be deprived of food when she's going dizzy?
She will thank me for it later! The kids do start really young here - 7-8 years old will be fasting and are really proud of themselves. Sometimes they start on a half day and then following year will do a full day. I actually told her she could break fast if she wanted to but she decided not to as she didn't want to make her friend feel bad who was fasting as well. She had only done a half day on the Saturday as she does gymnastics in the afternoon. You actually don't have to fast if you are ill, pregnant, or on your period, although in latter case you have to make up the days afterwards. My Mrs is really pissed off as she has gone through menopause in last year or so, so doesn't get her regular 3-4 days break.
The starting on half-days is a very good way of introducing it imo. I've worked with imams of mosques and parents to encourage this in school here, particularly when it's in the longer, hotter summer months. Or begin by performing them on weekends. The only frustration (not sure if that's the right word) I have is that children just think it's about not eating. When I ask most children what fasting/ramaadan is about most say it's about not eating and praying. I wish they'd be taught more that there is a third purpose - to being more considerate towards others, the community around you, learn patience and to break bad habits - the Haqooq Ul Ibaad. And it's not just about 30 days but is a blueprint for the whole year. I think Ramadan would serve the muslim community much better if there was a greater focus on teaching and being role models of this as adults to children.
That's strange as the kids are taught that here. In fact I was told yesterday that I had to be calm on the road and shouldn't be angry with bad drivers. I responded that I think even Mohammed would make an exception for Jakarta drivers. Saw a great tee shirt slogan here. A lot of Muslims here also fast every Monday and Thursday but 2/7 of the year plus 30days is a bit extreme.
My youngn has a 3/4 hour fast daily. Missed one so far. usually between lunch n Tea he rolls about after like he done an all day fast. He’s laying on sofa coz he’s hungry. crazy thing is…them hours he don’t usually eat…they between two meals. He might have had a drink a bag of crisps but isn’t missing a meal. The psychological aspect of knowing you’re not allowed makes him pang for it…loads up after like he’s been starving all day. My lad wants a top of the range Darth Vader outfit with a cape, not afake one, better have a cape he said.
I run on coffee from 4.30am to 7-8pm mon-thursday after that Fri sat Sundays are free days where I eat what I like within reason. Do I get my ticket in the big house..probably not I guess....anyways I'm good not going if the criteria is a bit rigid......I'll do another term here instead
Not fasting today unfortunately woke up yesterday with a mild shoulder top left arm pain. Had it a few weeks ago too but disappeared. So anyway…woke up with it and became quite excruciating as the day went on. I was fasting and wanted to see it out but I needed some pain relief. So last night opened fast, had some, they kicked in, I was comfy. Fell asleep woke up at half 3 and it’s killing like a mvfkr. I intended to fast but the pain was too harsh I needed some co codamol ting. So popped a few at half 4 and been up since…now chillin in bed havin a spliff just having had another 2 pain killers. It’s defo a muscle injury I know the pain from my training days and footy days…nowt to do with heart n ting so save me the lecture I’ve already been given…the concern is much appreciated though. It’s gonna rain at 10am according to weather forecast…it’s already started…so they got that spectacularly wrong…anyway…loving the weather…perfect for when I’m stuck indoors. Got young un here…Easter hols…****er.
The doctor said it was severe indigestion that could have led to complications and that I was right to go to A&E.
Spurlock if it helps I've only eaten a twirl today so I'm doing your fasting for you kind of......I'm sure the big man will fall for my little cheeky wink when asked by him if you did everything by the book
Tagz don't work but left these for you In The moosik fred Big album that is bro, in these times of hunger/fasting I bring you soul food

‘being more considerate towards others, the community around you’ Daughter goes to a faith school, for no other reason than learning these things, her fiends the same and how they treat each other m. Seems the cornerstone of all faiths.
Not sure if same in UK... But studies in the US show people of faith more likely to give to charity and offer help to others. Although on the flip side people of faith are also more likely to get arrested and go to jail.
Absolutely, and the second point (about jail) could be skewed because less wealthy people are more likely to be religious (and more likely to go to jail).
