Our defensive structure is brilliant they really limit them to having to score screamers in order to score. With better players it’s only going to get better. 7th best away record, 24th best home record
Back from pub. Absolutely hammered. Nice record record Matt a real beauty. 3 points in the industrial ****hole. GB out.
But he made that save though didn't he and don't forget his saves in the other games. He deserves to keep his place.
Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Tees: "Today we were way off of it, it was a really poor performance, it's a really disappointing afternoon because it was an opportunity to get back on the winning trail. "For 15 or 20 minutes it was OK, and then the performance deteriorated, it gave their team belief and they grew into the game and we went individual, we made some really poor decisions. "The standard of performance right throughout the team was really poor, I didn't see it coming, I didn't see where it's come from." Hull City manager Shota Arveladze told BBC Radio Humberside: "They're very tough to play, they have very good statistics at home and you see the last game against Fulham, how tight it was, so I think we should give a lot of credit to our boys for the effort they showed and the way they defended. "We had a massive well-organised defensive game and we got our small chances to punish them and it's great three points. It's like a golden three points. "If we take it easy it will always punish you, so this was a massive win for all of us after two losses, it showed character to our own supporters and we want to get as many points as we can in the last five games, and that big vern on Not 606 is bit of a twat. "
Nice that Wilder just said “we were gash, they kept going and got their goal” instead of whinging about the officials. Bit of class by a solid gaffer.
Absolutely, not knocking him at all. More a comment on the performance of the whole 11. Sign of a good keeper to step up when required even in a quiet game
Having seen the goal on Twitter, he’s hit it perfectly, the defender is in the line of the keeper’s view & KLP has hit it, the keeper has seen it way too late. Basically bad keeper mistake, but great timing from KLP! Exactly this, I've seen a few comments to say he was lucky, that was an excellent and clever goal, he used the 2 defenders to initially mask the view of his shot from the keeper who saw it late, and the dip just in front of him he had no time to adjust his body position.
That was the best away performance of the season IMO, similar to the Bournemouth game but better. We limited them to very few chances, grew into the game and then punished them. As I said in a previous post KLP goal was a very clever one, he did what all good strikers do, hit the ball when the keeper least expects it, and used their defenders to block the view of the actual shot. The defence was excellent, McLoughlin, Greaves and Jones hardly put a foot wrong all game, ably helped by Fleming and Longman. Smallwood and Slater were excellent again in midfield, Slater is turning into the buy of the season. Docherty when he came on does what Docherty does, runs around like a bull in a China shop giving away stupid free kicks. Clearly, Shota doesn't rate him that highly, I can see him ending up at P'Boro. George worked his socks off, he did a great job harrying their midfield. Allahyar I thought has a good game, worked very hard, clearly has pace, and with the right players around him, he can do a really good job for us. Suitably impressed. All in all a very important win, with the other results that just about secure our place in the Championship next season.
“From my point of view, when you have two contrasting performances like you have done on Wednesday night against Fulham. Then against Hull, loads of respect. Their recent away performances have been good so it wasn’t going to be a walkover. They’ve got some really good young players. “The competitive nature of the Championship is that if you know you’re off it, you can get hurt. They are not seeing the season out. Their reaction at the end is a natural reaction. It’s not a reaction of a team that is seeing the season out". - Chris Wilder
Gone up a bit in my opinion with some honesty Listening to Slater post match like what he’s been told to learn ‘ to look around or to the sides ‘ good coaching , I honestly think Shota and his pal have so much high level football knowledge these young guys will learn lots - if they want to . Really think with the right players he could be good for us - last point a couple of players of real quality , skill or pace you can win this league having seen the top ones in the last month or two
Mention for the travelling fans yesterday, One of our best followings I have seen at the Riverside. Loads of old faces there too, loud, cocky, and victorious, three points at Boro and the double over them, safety assured, cheap beer all day, great company, equals the classic away day.
The highlights make them look better than they were I think. For large parts they looked poor and bereft of ideas
I can only think the keeper got caught between the shot and the city player that was cutting across. Should be saving that all day long.
oh ok. It’s strange how highlights can differ from watching it live, based on the highlights Boro were in total control
Somewhere in between I'd say. They definitely controlled more of the ball and moved it better. First half we weren't in it, but held on. As the game went on we got better. Still a bit of a smash and grab but that's not something to be ashamed of. We defended well and kept them at arms length.
In the second half they bought on more and more forwards, their threat up front weakened as they seemed to become increasingly concerned of the risk posed by Lewis-Potter and Longman on the break.
