Was hoping at one point that Salisu might have got sent off for an aggressive shove on Valery. Would have been the highlight of a piss poor afternoon.
Ah ok, that makes sense. I guess the 2nd half was better than the 2st, but i wasnt sure if that was Chelsea easing off. Im going with the idea we played better, makes me sleep better tonight.
I can't recall ever giving a 0 out of 10 match rating before. Prior to his late block, which got him an upgrade to 1 out of 10, that's what I was giving Bednarek. JWP was awful, and Ely was back to how he was before Celtic. But Bednarek was on a whole different level of abjectness.
I thought Werners 1st goal was Bednarek’s fault. JWP may have headed it over him, but Jan didnt need to be so tight to Werner and was always going to get don for pace. Also, it was clear that JWP would head it back, Bednarek has always struggled to read the game, and this was another example of doing so.
That performance was not at al acceptable. I would comment that Chelsea were brilliant , especially in the first half and ensure that we were chasing shadows for much of the game. However good Chelsea were, I think we did not really put a shift in after the first five minutes. There were warning signs when the post and cross bar were struck yet there was not one player other than KWP and Forster who did not put in a sub-par performance. The defence was woeful and you could be forgiven for thinking that JWP and Elyounoussi were on the pitch. The bloke sitting next to me said that this record was on the cards are the recent performances. I am struggling to think how we have suddenly become so poor and players like Salisi and Stuart Armstrong look quite so abject.
There should be some kind of punishment for Salisu and Bednarek, their performance today was bluntly unprofessional and lazy. Others had a bad day but its hard to look specifically at what they churned out and genuinely say they tried.
Salisu also had an altercation with Valery in the first half too. I find Saints really perplexing. A few weeks ago, I would have argued that Ralph's efforts had really bourne fruit and believed that we were on the way to achieving our true potential . The performance this afternoon seems more akin to the performances we put in under Hughes and Pelegrini. I was shocked at how much we had regressed this afternoon. It feels like all the good work this season is being squandered.
We are going to have bad runs because we haven't got the squad depth that teams like West Ham and Wolves have. On a good day, our first XI can compete with anyone in the league. But our bench isn't strong enough. The only player I feel can impact games off the bench is Diallo. This is why I say our squad is average. Our regular first team are good PL players, the rest of the squad is poor.
This exactly, poor Fraser was quite rightly losing his **** with the pair of them throughout the whole match. You can't expect to get anything against a top team when your CB pair are undermining the whole team performance.
Perraud, Redmond, Stephens/Lyanco, A. Armstrong, Diallo, are all decent subs. And we've been relatively lucky with injuries this season anyway, so the squad depth (or lack of) hasn't been such an issue as it was last season.
Who is West Ham’s squad depth? All I’ve seen from their fans is how they only have an 11 and were livid they didn’t strengthen in Jan their first 11 is better than ours though
I absolutely would not. I've made my feelings on relegation clear plenty of times on here and I can't recall the last time I moaned about us selling a player. I also think it's a bit unfair for you to keep mentioning 'one game' and 'kneejerk' - I said all of this last summer (plus a couple times since) and it's something I've been consistent on.
