That's a foul then because wood shouldn't have to move out the way. To move out the way would've been far too polite.
It’s a penalty nowadays but he clearly played for it. TBH if I was referee I wouldn’t have given it as he drags his foot to make contact which whilst he doesn’t have to get out of the way of contact what he did was ‘artificial’ and hence not a penalty.
You can't come rushing out sliding into players like that it's a foul anywhere in the pitch.. He's nowhere near the ball.
As I said it was dubious. It could be argued the foul was actually obstruction as Sa wasn't moving when Wood dragged his foot into him. It certainly wasn't a stonewall penalty. Wood's actions were unnatural - he was on the way down before he touched Sa so that he could drag his legs into him. Anyway I am going to wait for @Roland Deschain's view on it before I decide as I know he is completely unbiased in all Wood matters.
Fair enough he's definitely accepted the foul there. Will that do? On wood I think he played well yesterday I don't think he's a world beater, but he definitely isn't easy to deal with if you're a cb.
We've had worse dives given as penalties against us. If a players in or near the box and you put a leg out he's gonna dive for the penalty. Right or wrong its the state of football now and the magic of VAR hasn't done anything to change it. I'll take the win thanks very much all the same. The foul on Murphy the other week was much worse than this and wasn't given so, hay ho, what ye gonna do.
There was clear contact wasn’t there and yes Wood keeps his feet down but the keeper wiped him. I remember Fraser getting snapped in half against Man City and we didn’t get one.
Makes you wonder if the ref hasn't seen some of the **** decisions we've been getting and thought I'm not going look that stupid, if it looks like a foul to me I'm giving it as that.
Now Fraser’s was a penalty. The referee and VAR referee should have both been sacked for that decision.
What about that penalty given against Laschelles, the guy was halfway down when his leg went out. Blatant dive if you've ever seen it.
Very hard. A dive without a foul is wrong, and we often see attackers deliberately making their leg connect with a keeper and then falling. But in this case their keeper presented Wood with a nailed-on pen. Nice flick of the ball by Wood to stop Sa touching it.
It would be wrong to throw a game, but if we've got nothing but a points total to play for, then I'd be totally happy if some fringe players get a game. It might help them find new clubs in the Summer and would be thanking them for their work this season. My team if there's nothing to play for except relegating Everton: Mark Gillespie in goal. Left back ASM Right back Richie Centre back Lascelles Midfield Longstaff Shelvey, Miggy and Murphy Attack Gayle, Joelinton and Darlow.
