I understand the history of where it comes from; similar with our dislike of Leeds for us older generation. But the point is, it isn't really helping anything with both sides perpetuating it. Just like FC (and KR) fans from Hull & ER should support, or at the very least not deride their local football club, we shouldn't belittle the RL clubs. I know I'm pissing in the wind. Re. the media fixation. Yes, 100% agree. The myth(s) need dispelling and the ridiculous peddling of them by the local media and those that should know much better should stop once and for all. And as others have said, Palmer, like too many before him and no doubt after him, did an absolutely **** job in that respect (as he did in explaining to Acun who Ian Ashbee was); like it or not, the FACT is that Burnsey would have done a way better job.
There used to be a tournament I swear that featured City, Scunthorpe and Grimsby in pre season. Chuck in Ferriby, Hall Road, Brid or somebody and have a two day tourney, make a go of it. Or invite a team from Belgium, Holland or Norway across on the Ferry. Obviously we wouldn’t win because it’s at home, but the thought is there.
You're still focusing on whether it's reasonable value or not. Memberships are reasonable value yes, but is that good enough? Are we happy with a half empty stadium as long as in theory we can argue that it 'should' be more full? Or are we prepared to do what it takes to make it actually full? I think Acun will know he has to do something pretty drastic.
And what's it going to take? The club can't be run on fresh air! It's going to cost a hell of a lot of money to make us competitive again. Our fans should be willing to back to club by paying a very reasonable "membership" to see us become that again
I agree, if the prices were higher and a lot of money had been spent on players and we weren't winning I could understand why people might get pissed off, but we've barely spent anything and people are still staying away.
Afternoon all.... three things stood out for me from last night and the debacle surrounding Rugby at MKM.... 1. I think Acun was hovering on a vote of what people wanted in regard of ground sharing when he was rudely interrupted... maybe I misinterpreted... 2. The lady who wanted further discounts for supporting both. Does that mean she gets to keep the same seat for both codes, depriving a City fan of his seat who doesn't support Hull FC... 3. When City were promoted to the Premiership, there was some statistic about how much revenue the City got from global exposure, away fans making a weekend of it etc etc, maybe companies looking at Hull in a different way. Now there is obviously a lot of interest in City in Turkey and who knows other nations Acun is involved with. He mentioned he is having to sell City merchandise internationally. My question is, what benefit to the City is a burger bought by a Castleford fan who is going to **** off home when the game has finished. And that is where the huge disparity in the use of the stadium lies for me.
The lady asking for discounts for both City and FC was clearly pushing her luck, but perhaps it could make sense to the SMC to have a members scheme for all events a bit like the members club at Wembley?
A membership for both clubs isn't a new thing, it was written into the corporate memberships when the stadium was built, I could have attended all Hull FC games for pennies had I wanted to (you weren't guaranteed the same seat for both, but I think most who took up the joint memberships did keep the same seat). These were SMC memberships, rather than club memberships and were originally set up so that each club benefitted if the other club was doing particularly well. Only City did very well and Hull FC didn't and it was a poor deal for City, so Allam scrapped it.
Anyone suggesting Burnsy wouldn't have done a better job clearly has a chip on their shoulder. Palmer was cack. Same as those making out Fletch is a better commentator. Better at what exactly? Dead-air during stoppages? Mincing words? Or just forgetting to turn the audio stream on at the start of the match or after we've been left cut-off during the break?
As said before lots of wins looking likely and they’ll come back regardless of the price - once you can turn up and expect t a win most weeks it gets appealing . But so many wanting it for nowt is ridiculous - they found miles more money to watch the premier games . The membership is a bargain per match .
Telling the SMC owner it was built for FC too. Yeah luv. That was 25 years ago and their lease is nearly up. I'm sure he's aware. Fair play to her supposing both clubs, but the question was how to get more to city games, not how to make it cheaper for her to maintain her lifestyle.
