i've been taking my littlest Hornette to games since she was around 4 too. We sat in the rous for her first year as a season ticket holder, but she's been in the Rookery since she was 6 and screams at the ref like the best of 'em. Never swears though and bizarrely took years to work out what the C word was! lol...but then, until TYO decended, it wasn't the noisiest part of the Rookery...!

Morning all - and what a beautiful autumn morning in bandit country. It was foggy with a heavy dew on the grass and cars first thing, but the sun is out in a clear blue sky....

Great week-end ahead, we are in The Hornets Nest for the game tomorrow, so a few bottles of taittinger rose.jpg before the game to deaden the pain. Then tomorrow night I have a Sports Dinner in one of my locals with Graham Gooch as the after dinner speaker, so a few Old Rosie.jpg followed by a few View attachment 8070 will be the order of the night....

I sat in the family stand for the first game I went to. All I can remember is that my mum spent the whole game on the edge of her seat and kept telling Gifton Noel Williams to tuck his shirt in! Don't think she's been to a game since!

Have you done something wrong ak, you might want to read the following below :)

    Sent to Coventry

The Origin Of The Phrase Sent To Coventry

The phrase sent to Coventry comes from The English Civil Wars of the 1640s. The Royalist troops, nicknamed The Cavaliers, who were captured in Birmingham by the Roundheads, lead by Oliver Cromwell, were sent to a Parliamentary stronghold prison in Coventry.

It could also come from the time after the Civil Wars when people from Coventry disliked the military so would ignore and shun the troops.

The phrase has come to mean being shunned or ignored. The usage of the phrase was popularised during industrial disputes in the UK during the 20th Century. Workers who would not support the Unions were sent to Coventry by the other workers and ignored.

During the Second World War Coventry was bombed by the German Luftwaffe Air Force and this added emphasise to the phrase because being sent there meant you were disliked because there was not much there after the bombs had caused destruction.

Afternoon all, grey and a bit damp first thing, but it is so warm for the time of the year.

After the bread run this morning and a visit to La Poste I have been helping my neighbour to sort out her internet and phone problems. The problem has been resolved now that the phone line extension put in by her husband has been disconnected.

It is just another way in which we all help each other out when there are problems. Makes for a nice life. ;)

No I have done nothing wrong.

I made some applications for work in England, one was rejected, one I wait to hear an outcome and one I have an offer.

One good thing I have discovered about Coventry is they have ice hockey.

everyone in my family are City fans (thank god :)) although my step dad supports Liverpool as his family are from their, so suppose that's fine and my mum from Wigan(her side prefer the egg chasers, which is good watching them but football is better so I watch Wigan Athletic lol ;)), next thing is to get the lil cousins down Ashton Gate before they go to the memorial stadium, bad times ;)

AK - My impressions of Coventry are that it is a very typical Midlands town in that for years it was very a prosperous industrial town with a number of large manufacturers based there, but over the years these companies have closed down their operations and there has not been much to replace it, so the place has become a bit run down...just like many towns up & down the country.

But I much preferred Highfield Road to the Photocopier Stadium...

I'm a Cardiff Devils fan (from when I was at Uni and students got cheap tickets) and there's been a bit of animosity built up over the last few years with Coventry Blaze but it's nowhere near the hatred we have towards Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers. If you do go, don't expect a standard anywhere near the Icelandic leagues - GB hasn't qualified for an Olympic ice hockey tournament for a very long time, if at all.

Took my boys when they were babies - the eldest went to a game the Boxing Day before his 1st or 2nd birthday. This was in the old Family Enclosure and there was a creche next to the snack bar. Youngest isn't too bothered with sport in general so doesn't go anymore but he always wants the Orns to win so that his brother and I are in a good mood.

I used to be a fan, but then i was enlightened and realised that they did not pay great football, they just paid for the title back in 04/05 having spent over 100,000,000 in one transfer window on 2 players. Safe to say i gave up then!

Abducting a four year old girl's kitten, denying it despite getting caught on camera, and never returning it.
Earning £13m per year and then going out of your way to breach your contract, in the knowledge that it will cost you £500k and the other party ~£30m.
Picking up £3.50 worth of water off of the street on a hectic day.

I make that two criminals, one stupid kid, and one person who has actually ended up in prison.

    You missed something NNW...
"Abducting a four year old girl's kitten, denying it despite getting caught on camera, and never returning it - and selling your story to a tabloid"

Only bright spot of the day was that rich kid son of the Pink Floyd bloke getting his appeal turned down - but i don't expect that Cambridge Uni will be kicking his arse out as they would if it was one of our kids...justice is for the very wealthy
