Pope 7th rated keeper in the prem this year (rated 6th last tear), Meslier 19th (13th last year). The ranking is based on the equivalent of expected saves for a keeper - xg in reverse so focuses on shot stopping rather other keeper attributes... obviously it can't account for the quality of the shot, so is just a guide... that you would expect to get more reliable over a longer period.

Burnley goals against 42. Leeds goals against 68. Again styles of the team plays a big part but i wouldn't rule out Burnley defenders based on them getting relegated when the reason for that is they don't score goals.

I'd take Taylor and Pope... need to see more of cornet before i'd pass comment though we were apparently interested before he went to Burnley.

Remembering the West Ham United team that were relegated from the Premier League in 2003
They couldn't buy a win despite having Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Jermain Defoe in the side

West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta believes this West Ham team are NOT too good to go down.

The club are struggling in the Premier League this season and sit bottom of the table with zero points from four games.

It’s not like they don’t have the quality. During the summer a lot of money was spent on Felipe Anderson, while Jack Wilshere was also added to a team already containing Marko Arnautovic, Zabaleta and Javier Hernandez.

Fans will know the feeling all too well considering the quality of the side that went down in 2003. The 42 points accrued was a record for a relegated side.

“How we took that team into the Championship is beyond me,” Don Hutchison, who was part of the team, has previously said.

Club legend Sir Trevor Brooking had a stand at Upton Park named after him and was in charge of the West Ham team on the final day of the season that were relegated
Everyone else wondered exactly the same. A glance at the squad list throws up a host of familiar names, including Michael Carrick, David James, Joe Cole, Ian Pearce, Jermain Defoe, Trevor Sinclair, Glen Johnson, Paolo Di Canio, Les Ferdinand, Freddie Kanoute and Steve Lomas.

“That team should have been easily competing for top six, top seven. To this day it’s still a mystery how we went down,” Hutchison added.

Even with the talent of Defoe and Michael Carrick, another academy graduate, West Ham went down
Two points from their opening six games was not the best start, but then a 3-2 win against Chelsea gave supporters hope. A 2-1 defeat to Birmingham followed, but preceded back-to-back wins against Sunderland and Fulham before everything went wrong.

Everton beat them 1-0 at Upton Park on 27 October and the Hammers didn’t win again until victory against Blackburn on 29 January.

Trevor Sinclair, who played for England at the World Cup a year earlier, could not help the Hammers
With three matches of the season remaining, manager Glenn Roeder fell ill with a brain tumour – he made a full recovery – and club legend Trevor Brooking took over.

Kanoute scored late to beat Manchester City in Brooking’s first match and Di Canio scored in the 1-0 win against Chelsea, meaning everything was riding on the final day.

A 2-2 draw at Birmingham, though, meant the club were doomed as Sam Allardyce’s Bolton beat Middlesbrough 2-1 to preserve their Premier League status at the expense of this hugely talented squad.

The sight of Sam Allardyce dancing at the Reebok with Jay-Jay Okocha after sealing 17th spot still haunts West Ham fans to this day
This was the starting XI in the final game of the season against Birmingham: James, Repka, Dailly, Brevett, Johnson, Sinclair, Lomas, Cole, Defoe, Ferdinand, Kanoute.

Yeah Carrick was deffo at West Ham then because he was sitting at the table next to me at a pizza restaurant alongside The Thames in about January 2003.

    True story

All correct with West Ham, hard to believe.

On 42 points, a record number to be relegated on.

Mind blowing that they went down. Sometimes the group just doesn't click during a season or formations don't suit the players.

Whatever the reason, some of those lads turned out to be among the world's elite players.

Yeah, I understand that mate. I'm not excusing him. All I will say is that the contract negotiations were between his agent, Monk and Cellino. They'd dragged on for months and Cellino was offering peanuts despite Taylor being the reigning Player of the season if memory serves me correct. Taylor had been injured for months and it was the last game of the season. His agent told him not to play because Cellino was not willing to negotiate. It was bad advice from the agent and Cellino had been at it for months. Like I say... no excuse to refuse to play but.... Cellino.

Dramah done the same this season but noises are that he might come back under Marsch.

I get where you're coming from Emu, but it's just my opinion, I'm sure loads disagree with me. I just thought it was disrespectful to the club, team mates and supporters regardless who was running the club. <ok>

    I can't argue there.

However, Taylor would be our starting LB.

Pope is better than the reserve keeper (he might just oust Meslier, I think its close).

Cornet is made for Marsch system and makes things happen, he is better than James and Harrison in a more central role as far as I can see. He works as hard as Dan James defensively.

We don't have a number 9 as Bamford is injured. Weghorst would play now for us because of injuries. When Bamford is fit next year, Weghorst would be solid back up. He is better than Roberts.

I did at the time too, but eventually realised that I've have done exactly the same if I was him. Took me years to come to that conclusion, right enough.

Don’t agree doc. If they were to beat Norwich Sunday they’d only need four more. Still. Have Newcastle and villa twice to play. Villa will be on their summer holidays for both those end of season games

I don't want to give it the kiss of death, but a draw is the best result for us.
