Burnley's best player by a country mile is James Tarkowski

West Ham went down with Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrick, Paolo Di Canio, Trevor Sinclair, Glen Johnson and Lee Bowyer in 2003. A few of them went on to become pretty special players and won the top honours in the game.

Taylor fits the way we play perfectly and I don't think we need to gamble on another De Bock, Barry Douglas or Firpo. Just pay 15 million for Taylor, he is as solid as a rock. He's not letting you down and is very underrated as far as I can see.

We need an experienced goalkeeper to give young Meslier some competition and to help him progress. Pope is still in and out of the England squad and would give us great depth.

Weghorst is a bit of an iffy one but he can physically handle himself in the PL, can hold the ball up well to bring others in which fits the Marsch system. He'd be great back up for Bamford and a good option off the bench. We are extremely light up front, he would be a cheapish option.

Cornet looks useful. He is quick, runs at people, happy to play wide or central and works extremely hard for the team. He has a decent set piece and is technically very good. He is better than Dan James.

Also, Burnley do not pay huge wages so these players will fit our wage structure well and they won't have to move house as they are already local. Our squad would have greater depth and the above players fit the new system better.

Are you sure of that West Ham squad in 2003?

Yep, for the most part. Which ones are in question? They had David James in goal which may have added to their predicament.

Roy Keane was relegated with Forest.

Viduka and Co with us lot.

Just because you have been relegated with a team doesn't automatically mean you just get thrown in the bin. You sift through the wreckage and pick out the diamonds. Burnley have a handful of solid PL players(and a shedload of ****e). We have an incredibly light squad that needs strengthening.

Don't start me. I remember back to the days when you could have a fractured skull, but if you answered: "Yes" to the ref's question: "Are you able to walk off the field", you were whisked off, so the match could continue. If you replied: "No", a stretcher was brought on for you. Now? We get holdups for shoelaces being tied, a boot being put back on, heads being firmly clasped suggesting a head injury, even when his foot has been stood on, and various other forms of nonsense that do nothing to promote the game. The only people who benefit by the current regime are the timewasters & cheats, & boy, do they benefit.

Word of caution. Even if Burnley lose they have miles the easiest finishing program. Lots of chances for points and they’re back level here

Having Googled their 2003/4 squad I can only see Michael Carrick of the players you name. I could well be wrong in fairness and don’t know how to post it on here.

...and that's why I'd take Charlie Taylor.

Great play by Taylor. Firpo isn’t capable of doing anything like that the useless ****.

Thanks for that Ristac, I'll have a look at those.

I would say that I didn't include the analysis of the Wolves and Southampton games, to show that Harrison performed in those, I would say that the Southampton one supported your arguments barring the goal of course. Peoples opinions on players will always differ, however when someone cherry picks stats to promote their opinion on a player without providing the source of their information or providing relevant comparisons, should it come as a surprise when someone else questions that data, (especially when that someone is a sad nerd like myself who likes analysing stats), and post data that contradicts the original information.

As I said in my original response, Harrison at best is an average PL player, as is most of our first team squad. Thus when for whatever reason the team as a whole are performing poorly, it stands to reason that those average players will have more poor performances than good ones.

I definitely prefer the draw as it keeps Everton more than a win behind us and Burnley's extra point still keeps them 3 wins from overtaking us.
