I know it’s a bit of snobbery about cheap sausages and what goes into them. But shouldn’t we be eating the whole of the animal? If that means using those bits in a sausage and adding some spices to make it taste decent at a cheap affordable price, isn’t that better than just binning it?

Most sausages will contain offal, even the ones from the butcher. The cheap frozen sausages are something along the lines of 30% pork with the rest being misalanious fillers.

As an additional, I bloody love cheap sausages, the cheaper and more stuffed with ****e the better. It's an odd littke penchant of mine

I did have a go at making my own sausages, had a Kenwood mixer with sausage making attachment and bought the boar casings .Could make flavours to suit myself but the cost was too much so flogged attachment and just buy them now.
I also make my own bread but the way energy prices are going that might become a thing of the past as well.

    Do they really?

seems a waste. I know the chinese will pay a lot more for offal than you could make off a sausage.

I know one lad who did work in a meat plant for a little while before moving on and learning to be an apprentice mechanic. he mentioned the grading process in the plants and said never ever ever eat ikea swedish meatballs. you know those ones like subway etc. They are the lowest of the low grades.

I presume you know what the grading scales are then?

I believe foo fighters were given all sorts of awards cos their drummer OD'd

Is jody mitchell nearly dead or dying or even dead that these are being given?

Similar for wheeling out liza minnelli in a cealr case of dementia to be given a lump of gold at the oscars so lady ga ga could look good beside her.

Offal is delicious, heart in particular is lovely when fried.

It's a struggle to get hold of nower days, people have got terribly squeamish about meat.

They'd rather have a chicken breast from a battery farmed chicken, than an ox heart from a well kept animal.

I'd presume heart is higher up whatever scale (and tongue and ox tail)

    I have no real idea.

Liver parfait and such was always a thing and people used to go mad for liver as a ready source of iron etc but that's rare now.

I'm unsure, I know offal was a staple in our house when I was growing up. It was cheap and nutrious, while my mates where eating turkey drummers and potatoes waffles I had liver and sausage casserole.

I think I relate it to old fashioned cooking from my nanas era, you bought neat you could afford and made something good with it. There was never enough to go round so you didn't have to worry about calories. When i went to my grandads he used to give me dripping, sugar butties and everything was cooked in lard.

A far cry from today's treats for the kids.

Have to say one of the nicest things ever is griebenschmalz. thats lard and crackling basically, and herbs and salt (aor enven pples, onions, and spices such as marjoram, thyme, bay leaves, allspice, pepper.) of course.

its ****ing amazing. No such thing here.

my 3 favourite things on a trip to germany when i was going on business was that stuff, flaedlesuppe (beff consume with a crepe chopping int onoodles in it) and venison.

Those lads in the south of germany know who to eat!

Liver was deffo a thing in my house as was home made bread (rarely bought bread) and such.

just to say, germany. you ****ING MORONS.

there i said it because of the below.

Berlin won't be imposing an instant embargo on Russian energy, despite the atrocities in Ukraine, says German economy minister Robert Habeck.
But he says the EU's largest economy is working towards cutting off Russian energy.
“We are working towards an embargo, with measures that every day are hurting Putin. We are on a good course and this week we will make more progress on that course”, he says.
“We are working on independence from Russian gas, coal and oil.”
Habeck says before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 35% of Germany’s oil came from Russia, now it’s more like 25%. In previous statements he has said since the invasion German dependence on Russian gas has gone from 55% to 40%.
Because of the civilian killings in Bucha and elsewhere in Ukraine new sanctions against Russia would be decided this week, he said.

In case people don't get this (and seemingly a lot simply don't) the iron curtain has slammed down in europe. the countries most in bed with russia are the ones peddling a back to normal line. this iron curtain will not lift until putin is dead and buried. As the russians seem utterly disinterested in doing that actively then they will have to wait til he pops his clogs of natural causes in 20 years time.

I really think these countries need to be thinking that come next winter that 40% of gas... guess what germany it will not be there. that oil.. guess what.. won't be there.

I Was astonished that the germans said in march they would work to end dependence on russian oil and gas by 2027. My god what are they on?

But i was equally astonished that at COP26 the EU tried to make out that gas was a "sustainable energy source"

We need to accelerate wind, nuclear, tidal and solar power now. The more we do the better the situation will be. the more offshore wind there is the better. the more we pump water for hydro plants the better as thats the real only way to "store" excess energy.

The green agenda aligns imo with the cold war effort. we cannot fall back on crap fracking in the USA and Saudi arabia for energy. we just can't. energy independence = European independence.

Germany not willing to risk a recession and large cost of living adjustments to "do the right thing". It sucks, but is understandable.

I wonder if it's time to privatize instead of freeze Russian assets. Make Putin even less popular with the oligarchs and people with power. (I know more common Russians all love Putin now because they're spoonfed propoganda)

its not cos all they are doing is storing up a massive issue for themsevles next winter when the gas gets cut off.

They have to move heaven and earth now immediately.

the Russian assets globally are a minor hindrance, anything that's an asset of an oligarch in terms of shares in other energy or mining or whatever can easily be laid hands on as we go.

we have to realise is no russian general is willing to drive tanks into moscow and put him against a wall then by the time he purges the army likestalin did that we are very likely now to be waiting out his natural life here.

Russian gas, coal and oil are gone form europe. end of. Germany doesn't seem to get it.

Not sure how accurate, but I was reading an article from some former Kremlin inner circle guy who was saying that the current inner circle are angry that Putin is reversing decades of progress. That guy seemed to suggest that whilst Putin's support on the street hasn't dipped, his inner circle are not so positive.

Don't know how accurate or how much real insider knowledge this guy still has. (The fact that he is ex insider means he probably is biased against Putin)... But if accurate, Putin could be silently assassinated rather than by General crossing the Rubicon with a tank squad.

I sincerely doubt anyone will pull and et tu brutus moment as they all hang together.

I really couldn't comment on the youff of Russia. We saw protests but nothing much since. I can't directly ask any either cos I can only ask work questions. I know they are scheming away of how to get stuff delivered as not one courier company will deliver now. They know what's going on but they won't write or say anything and I won't ask at work
