He did for 4 games didn’t he then swapped back after the Barnsley result. Even then it was very much a 4-4-1-1 despite setting up to play 4-3-3. Edit- looking back they were probably the most defensive 4 performances so take it back.
Bur surely a new coach coming in should have new ideas to develop the team further. Why do most teams see an uplift in performances when a new manager takes over???
That would make a great sports science PhD subject. Recall Bobby Collins coming in. Winning next four without breaking a sweat. The dawn of a new age we thought. Sacked about four months later after a dismal run of ten defeats when we were lucky to nil.
Two of the other options are what were brought in during the transfer window and we let one go who may have been better keeping ( can't stop him leaving if he really wanted to go )
To really simplify things, rather than trying to improve individual performance get them to do different things.
Because for those clubs, the players have been underperforming or under coached. What I’m suggesting - and I’ve no idea if it’s true or not - is that the previous manager wrung as much as he could out of the squad he had and Arveladze’s coaching team isn’t able to get much more out of them, or play them in a more effective formation. The results back that up - a new manager bounce against Blackburn, then broadly back to the pattern of results we were getting before Shota joined - get an early goal and we mostly kick on, concede the first goal and we generally go to pot.
You could argue there has been an improvement at the back, we look better there IMO. But that could be due to the fact we have 3/4 young talented CBs and young player in Fleming that all will go on to have good careers...when you look further up the field we just have very limited L1 players who probably won't play at this level again bar KLP and hence just aren't really capable of improving I still think people should just ( as crap as it sounds ) forget about the rest of this season and accept the squad we have is what it is, relax a little and not get to worked up about it all atm ( hard as fans I know ) summer is huge for us and that coupled with the first 10games of next season should be the yard stick on shota and the new owners
Be interesting to see if we try do our business early! Help get a team/squad working together. I would happily take top half next season, see a project build.
Shota - W3 D3 L7 McCann - W2 D4 L7 These are based on the first 13 games (each) in charge this season, taking into account it's basically McCanns team, Shota has 12pts and McCann had 10pts McCanns next 6 games were - W2 D0 L4
Aye, the team will need to be playing together for a season before it starts to properly gel. Hopefully people don't start to get impatient. Will have to be a quick turnaround, the season this year starts on July 30th, when we're usually finishing pre season games. Season finishes on May 7th, so assuming the players go on holiday in May, they'll have to be back at it in June to get ready.
Yeah, it's only a week earlier, but it means everything has to be brought forward a week, transfer window included. Championship is suspended during WC group stages, which means there'll be some sort of mad fixture congestion later in the season, unless they scrap an international break (which I'm still not convinced should be a thing).
Huddersfield finished in 20th last season and look at them now. That’s without heavy investment too. The gap isn’t as big as we think. If the recruitment is correct for the style Shota wants to implement we could easily close the gap.
The gap isn't huge bar Fulham, the biggest thing that gets teams out the championship is experienced players which bring consistency. With that being said, I think it's a mistake to be looking so heavily overseas for our players next season.
Middle of the park and the back is where you recruit domestically for me. Forward areas/creative I’d be more inclined to look overseas as they’re often cheaper then the top achieving domestic forwards. We need a Ollie Norwood type in the middle and a Curtis Davies at the back. The list of players out of contract in the championship is littered with quality and I hope we don’t entirely ignore it.
That was the plan with Duffen/ Brown wasn’t it and it escalated much quicker , we only just survived relegation the season before . Just shows what a bit of momentum can do in this league once you get up into the right half of the table . Not saying would definitely happen again but dare to dream and all that .
