Couldn’t get the ball 2 nd half and when we did gave it away. Huddersfield and most of this league are all probably a full season or two ahead of us…but then this the Championship. How did you rate us first half with all 11 onboard? We held our own…no?
I thought we were alright last night, they had better players than us (as has been the case with most teams this season), but we still matched them in the first half. It was always going to be difficult to get anything from a top four team when a man down (Eaves is a ****ing idiot), but if Sayyadmanesh could get a header on target, we'd have still managed a draw.
Good opportunity for Tyler Smith, who looked sharp at Peterborough. He encourages us to play the ball down channels rather than into a big man.
Yes we did, but a manager should be able to adapt to going down to 10 men , our plan was for KLP to try and do everything on his own ( not to dissimilar to when we have 11) don’t expect us to dominate , but going down to ten at home should not end the game
Stop talking sense. Work in progress Lammy. There will be more defeats,a few surprises and probably a good few arrivals in summer before we dig into the Championship sand and give teams a proper 90 mins. UTT.
Unfortunately we have to score first these days. Are you convinced we have the players good enough now to beat sides like Huddersfield with 10 men?
Think we all wanted us to strengthen in January Some in here are trying to polish a turd and say we did We didn’t Who knows what we could have done if we had Instead we got Forss Allahyar Walsh and slater Not good enough
The championship is very odd , anybody can beat anybody on the day and no team is worthy of been scared of . I certainly don’t expect us to play for 0-0 against anyone, 10 men or not . I expected to lose before last nights game , I just didn’t like the attitude second half . Like I say once we conceded we created 2 or 3 half chances, we should have done so from 45 mins
3 things. 1. This talk about Shota out is plain ridiculous. Give your heads a wobble and please shut the **** up with such nonsense. (Reasons why it's ridiculous have been well explained by others on this thread). It's also pretty insulting to the new owner / regime, and if it grows it risks them thinking if not saying well **** you lot, you don't deserve anything. Saying things like 'I can't understand what he's saying blah blah' is also ridiculous and insulting. Nearly all foreign coaches have their own way of expressing English; his is fine, and is improving all the time. He reminds me very much of a couple of very impressive foreigners (from countries not too far from his home) in the way he expresses & portrays himself. Acun and others pointedly state he's a very intelligent man. He'll be more than fine once they get chance to make the changes that are needed and he gets chance to really work with the squad. 2. Saying 'clear out the deadwood' seems to me to be really insulting and inappropriate to the squad who have sweated buckets to get us safe this season. Maybe it's just use of a very lazy phrase. Our budget is among the lowest, if not the lowest, in the division. Basically still that of a L1 club. They have never once been found lacking in effort. The fact is, the quality, experience, guile, speed, strength is just not there (and back to point 1, this is what Shota has inherited). 3. We will stay up, fairly comfortably, and that is an achievement with this squad, this budget, a mid-season end of transfer window regime change that could have gone pear shaped. We will get another win and a couple of draws and be absolutely fine. Even with just odd draws, minimum we will get, we will be fine.
Attitude or tactics? Attitude is down to the players. Tactics is down to the manager who I feel your unhappy with but haven’t actually said so…yet? If your not go for it.
From the end of Jan onwards this season was a right off for me. I think it was all about shota ( who I'm not convinced about ) assessing the squad and learning the ropes for summer recruitment/next season. The summer window and out first 10 games next season will be a true reflection on what our new owner really wants to do here and if shota is the man to take us forward. Until then it's just going to be a frustrating but ultimately pointless set of games IMO
Tactics mainly, I am unhappy with him last night : I not going to judge him properly until next season with his own players, but you can’t ignore this home form - own players or not . We’re you happy to wait until the 70th odd min to have a go second half? A team already maligned for not scoring at home , yes Eaves ****ed up - but once again you have to adapt to the situation , take a risk . We were told he was hired cos Acun would rather lose 4-3 then draw 0-0 … I don’t think I’ve seen too many more negative managers in our dugout for a while …. Like I say I will judge him more next season but you would think these games would be him showcasing his style , setting a blueprint for his intentions , encouraging Acun to open that cheque book .
Agree completely, I reckon Ilicali knew the season was to be written off when he bought the club and that survival was the game. Why they bought who they did in Jan is anyone's guess, bit of cover maybe or a sop to the fans? Any serious money spent in Jan could easily have been wasted if (a) they didn't gel with the squad, or (b) Arveladze couldn't manage it well. We could have found ourselves in a serious relegation fight. As it is we'll likely struggle through with what we've got then reboot in the summer. Having said all that I think Sayyadmanesh might have a game in him. I know he should have scored last night but at least he was there to put his head on it, that helps! He seems to be keen though and it looks like he has a bit of attitude which is always worth something. UTT
He doesn't need to convince or encourage Acun. Should he have 'gone for it' straight after Eaves got sent off? With 10 men against a top 6 side? Suicide. Instead, he started with KLP playing up front on his own; imo opinion, another very sensible, logical approach. KLP got next to zero service, because we just aren't good enough, so as time went on he changed it again and taking bigger risks toward the end (as almost every manager would do).
No flag waver of Shota but he will without doubt get more time..so let’s get that out the way. What’s killing us right now is a combination of a managerial change midway through a season, new tactics and the step up from L1 to this level. Home advantage is usually a goal start but the further up the football league you go that theory gets found out if the players are not up to it every week. Your league position rarely lies..unless of course the manager is so ****ing **** he’s actually dragging the club backwards. Either way Shota and the whole squad is now under the microscope for a better/new contract next season and the rest of the fixtures will go a long way as to who we can all slaughter next season if the **** really hits the fan or..sing there praises if we do well. Such is football life..
They bought who they did in January because: - the Allam's ****ed about so long with the sale (hear from about the 1 hour mark from Thursday's fans forum where Jim Rodwell finally starts to disclose a bit about what it was like trying to buy from them) that they were left scrambling about. - Even with the limited time, they tried to bring in a couple of more serious intent signings but they didn't come off for whatever reasons. - SA has been brought in for the future. They grabbed him while they could, clearly believing he's a big future talent. - Slater was a very sensible cheap option simply to bolster the midfield and help us get over the line (and so it is proving). A bit of a no brainer; he's young, and may, hopefully, develop further. - Forss. On paper, a decent little gamble to have taken. Unfortunately not worked out so far. It happens. It wasn't the time, and their wasn't the time, for the needed rebuilding. That comes in summer. And major rebuilding wasn't needed, just a couple of additions to see us safe ..... which is what is happening. BTW, I'm no 'Shota flag waver' either, but I find some of the negative comments / talk about him plain ridiculous, naive and frankly embarrassing.
When, years ago, Birmingham couldn't win at home for ages, then manager Barry Fry decided to have a piss in each of the four corners of the ground to fighten away the evil spirits. I don't suggest Shota does that, but maybe just pisses off.
Not sure about that. I don't see a change in tactics, formation or (for the most part) personnel. Shota had watched every game this season so was more familiar with the playing staff than any new manager could hope to be, so should have hit the ground at least trotting. Sad to say, the only difference between him and McCann seems to be that we're even more inconsistent and have now created a club record of consecutive home defeats. This isn't being reactionary or panicky, it's just laying out the facts, and to blindly go into the next season entrusting him with a significant transfer budget without questioning the manager's record seems crazy.
Everyone pretty much usually agrees there is nothing between the championship top and bottom until it suits their argument . A top 6 side in a bog standard league! So flippin what!! If it was Liverpool I would fully support the everyone behind the ball approach . And once again I’m not saying it should have been. Kamikaze all out attack , but it shouldn’t have taken until last ten mins to decide to get in their half and stick a cross in the mixer . That’s all I’m saying
Can I ask what you expected? We literally had about 5 days left of the window when we could do business. We signed some players to give us extra bodies and depth but on the whole they've not worked out. We've had 2 managers this season who have both outperformed the budget. Yet they're both got hammered. Any notion that we were going to turn into a top 12 side was always too hopeful. We don't have the players, there's no ifs or buts. We need a major overhaul, the current XI are fine on the whole but there's no depth whatsoever. We probably need 5/6 players that come in and walk straight into the XI and then probably another 5/6 to really add depth. Patience is required that's all and probably a fair amount
