It's not the case of why he wouldn't want to be a part of a powerhouse of world football, so much as would a powerhouse of world football want him to be part of them! He isn't even first team now and the team is only going to get better from here on in. Move somewhere else and become a first team player and build a future for yourself rather than just being in the reserves here.
This. He's 5th choice midfielder at the moment. If we further improve that area in the summer then he'll do well to even appear off the subs bench. He might want to be part of the club's future, but he'd have to make huge steps in development to be a regular from.next season. I'd love him to hit that level, but I can't see it happenning.
Bizarrely the same thing happened last season, we picked up points when he was out. I'm sure it's pure coincidence though!
I think Longstaff will be a top championship player. He’s not at development age now for me he is approaching his peak years and won’t really develop much more. He’s 24 and should be playing regular football if he is going to make a career out of it.
Indeed. He's older than half the current England squad, but he certainly wouldn't get into Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd like some of those kids are already. He's a decent squad man, but if we do push on with some big transfers then I simply can't see him getting a look in.
Yeah he'd do well at a team like Forest, Derby, Sheff Utd, QPR etc, establish himself as a hard working fan favourite there and if/when he manages to get promoted with such a team he can say he's built his way back up to being a Premier league player. When the time comes that we're winning leagues and cups, he'll just be making the very occasional appearance from the bench, and, local lad or not, the silverware will have nothing to do with him. It'll be like when Michael Owen went to Man U and got a medal for winning a title he had nothing to with. If he wants a proper career, then he's got to leave.
