Iran ranked 21 in the world. I wouldn't have guessed them that high. That's high enough not to be completely dismissed.

Iran are going to be fully stoked for that one. There again, can you imagine being Iran? They're most likely facing the US once and the UK twice. They'll be fully motivated, especially against the US.

Am I the only one who still thinks it stupid we don't play as GB?

Yes I know the team would be mostly English anyway... But there were some great Scottish players in the 80's and Wales produces some gems occasionally. As a United team we would almost certainly have more than just one trophy to show between ourselves for the last 100 years.

    We're GB for everything else.

You probably are given the rise of nationalism and history of this.

The jocks certainly don't want it. They don't want it in any sport but seem fine with athletics though.

The Welsh are now all up their own holes with bale etc and are telling neco williams to **** us over to play for them

And the engurlund southerners think they are the home and savoiur of football etc etc.

I'm sure the Northern Irish would be delighted on political grounds. Well, sure is a rather optimistic word for it as they'd probably be contrary about it just to be contrary.

If sweaty sturgeon ever gets round to her new referendum then maybe it's a moot point.

Why do the yanks all shout USA USA USA even though half of them would kill the other half in a heartbeat?

I suppose its cos the only sports they care about are their own word series of a single country

Rugby (minority sport globally with few countries) home nations play as there's lot of money in it for them

Cricket (minority global sport) England don't want to give Scotland and wales any money but are happy patch players from Wales and Ireland including word.cup winning captain.

Olympics (minority sports overall but massive global footprint) team gb cos they need lottery money to fund it as nobody pays to watch these sports.

Football... well guess what. Engurlund don't want to give a penny to other areas and there's a lot of money involved.

    Follow the money
