I think the additions of Eriksen and Bale on free transfers are absolute no-brainers and would instantly improve our options in those areas.

However judging by his comments yesterday, it's pretty clear that if Wales don't qualify for the WC, he'll probably go to the States or the Gulf for one final nest egg.

Which means we need to pray Ukraine lose. Which feels immoral.

Even if they qualify, the way he was speaking sounds like he's planning to hang up his boots once the WC wraps up, which begs the question if a six month contract is even worth the effort

Yeah I heard that too. A one year deal would be fine but having a player even Bale for literally a few months seems pointless.

I wouldn’t look at it as Kulusevski unfairly drops to the bench should Dybala (or Martinez/ Bale/ an other) join. Assuming our front three maintain their current form to the end of the season then they keep their spots for the first games of the following season and whoever joins in the window is the one to start games from the bench with the onus on them to steal a spot. As cliched as it sounds - don’t fix what isn’t broken - and our front three at the moment certainly isn’t broken.

If Dybala/ Bale joins and Gil has assurances on his loan return then Lucas could very well depart alongside Bergwijn, whose departure feels inevitable. Great guy and good squad player but he just lacks productivity, he’d be missed on a sentimental level but not so much in terms of ability if I’m being brutally honest, though his Amsterdam heroics will never be forgotten.

Mike McGrath reckons we’re interested in Jack Harrison and even made a bid in January.

I think he’s a decent player and versatile enough to play in various roles, albeit I do wonder if he’s what we exactly need at the moment. Would he be a significant upgrade on Bergwijn/ Lucas like Bale/ Dybala? No I don’t think he would. Not opposed to the idea of him joining but I feel Leeds would want a hefty fee and I don’t think he’d be worth paying a silly amount for.

If Harrison signed it could possibly be to play LWB, not as a wide forward. Perhaps a contingency plan if Reguilon goes back to Madrid ( which I don't see happening)

Yeah that’s not a bad shout, not sure what Harrison is like defensively though (?).

Well he has been playing (until recently) in Bielsas brand of 'total football' and they were expected to 'do their bit'

Hope not, would rather the club bought a proper LWB rather than someone who might be able to do a job there

I seem to be the only person to think this but wouldn't it actually be better if the World Cup was usually held in the middle of the northern hemisphere season? Players would be fresher for the world's premier competition. I would require any country bidding for it to hold it in their winter....it's a winter sport!

I would normally agree, but any manager who can make Victor Moses look like a world class wing back when he had only ever been an average right mid/winger clearly knows how to get players to play in that position. And proper LWB, with prem experience, and who might join us are in short supply.

I do like the kvetching about how terrible it is that the Premier League season will have to be paused to fit in a World Cup

Mainly because literally every South American league has to do this yet you never hear a word about it, or for that matter Russia's run in Euro 2008 was slap bang in the middle of the Russian season

Good LWBs in general, whether Prem-experienced or not seem in short supply at the moment, which is crazy as there’s an abundance on the opposite flank right now. England alone is boasting a ridiculous amount of talented RBs/ RWBs - Trent, Tripps, Walker, James, KWP, Lamptey - let alone the rest of Europe.

Yet when genuinely trying to think of LWBs who I think we could sign that’d be significant upgrades on Reguilon or Sessegnon, it’s very tough. All the good ones seem to be at top clubs already, think it’d be a case of trying to find an undiscovered gem. It’s why despite the fact he isn’t perfect, I really wouldn’t wanna lose Reguilon at the moment, think we’d struggle to replace him.

The fact that Los Ladrones are being linked with Tierney sums it up

Tierney's certainly not a bad LWB by any means, even though Scotland play him as a CB as Robertson is obviously markedly better, but the only reason anyone would think Los Ladrones would be interested is because their DoF was off their face on ketamine when told to watch the LWB in North London

Livramento, Wan-Bissaka, Aarons, Justin, Ben Johnson, Ayling, Djed Spence...
    It's a bit ridiculous, really.

You're struggling after about four or five with left-backs, in contrast.
Shaw and Chilwell, then maybe Rico Henry, Tyrick Mitchell and Matt Targett.
    Very different.

    Eriksen is a must imo

I just can’t see why this can’t happen unless he doesn’t fancy a return

Agreed. We can pontificate about players like Dybala who would join on huge salaries, lengthy contracts and the great unknown if they can even hack it in this league or not. Or we can sign a player on a reasonable salary, short-term contract, who knows the club, knows the manager and is more than proven in the league...and who opposition players won't dare to go in too hard on in.

It's possibly the simplest and most logical transfer suggestion since Van der Vaart was available for £8m.

He’s one of my favourite ever Spurs players so I’d love him back. One of those that made watching football and Spurs so enjoyable.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays at Brentford next season. They took a chance on him when just about no one else wanted too (we should’ve done!) and he’s always come across a morally decent bloke, so I can see him penning a 12 month extension out of gratitude to them.
