Top scorers with 12 points each, Spurf, BajanSpur*, Patsbighands, Spurlock*. these points enable Patsbighands and Spurlock* to share 2nd place only 2 points behind leader PleaseNotPoll* they push BajanSpur* into 5th 6points behind the lead, and enable me to escape from the second division into a more cosy 15th in the first. This league is so tight that moving up and down 6 places in a week is common. 6 failed to predict as some were bamboozled by the midweek game. As Spurs reach a winning rhythm at last the dreaded International break moves in to mess that up in true Spursy fashion. but I have hope that Conte the Impaler can use that time to our advantage. Johnny Ray seemed so revolutionary when I was in my teens! Now he looks more like a bank clerk than a heartthrob! And there was rivalry between his fans and followers of Frankie Lane. Johnny was my choice then as he is now, providing some “easy listening” (as they used to say in Virgin record stores - find yourself in that section and you knew you were middle-aged!). My version is more optimistic than the original, of course! So I’m sharing my mellow mood, and this wee tribute to the partnership which continues to flourish for us. Surely we’ll beat the Barcodes, won’t we?! Surely……..? With goals from Son and Kane (A really safe Spurs bet!) - Both will play their part In testing out the net. With goals from Son and Kane - Each of them get two - Spurs get four again, While Magpies bag just two People come to the stadium, Can’t believe what they see; Shaking their heads in wonder Saying: "How can that score be?" With goals from Son and Kane Landing in the net, Ambitions still remain - We’ll make the CL yet! People come to our stadium, Can’t believe what they see; Shaking their heads in wonder, Saying: "How could that pass be?" (Now, how could it be?) Those goals from Son and Kane, (goals from Son and Kane) Landing in the net, (goals from Son and Kane) Ambitions still remain (goals from Son and Kane) We’ll make the CL yet (goals from Son and Kane) Prediction Spurs 4 Barcodes 2 Scorers: Kane 2 Son 2 Cheers, Spurf!
I loved Johnnie Ray! Such clever words once again Audrey, don't know how you do it so consistantly, week after week, .
Very good, as ever. He was known as crying Johnny Ray wasn't he, due to his ability to turn on the tears mid song? Big favourite of my Dad, but doesn't seem to have endured in the way Bobby Darrin, Johnny Mathis etc did.
Very true. He certainly seemed to weep a lot! In fact, one of his songs was called Cry. It began: "If your sweetheart sends a letter of goodbye, It's no secret you'll feel better if you cry." I remember one comedian rewording that: "If your sweetheart sends a letter to your wife, You'll be lucky if you get off with your life!" Some of his songs have lingered. Like the one I used and this one above. And Little White Cloud That Cried, and Walking My Baby Back Home. He also recorded I'll Never Fall In Love Again, but I don't think it was his song originally. Bobby Darrin I really liked, too. But not Johnny Mathis. Most of my friends were Frankie Laine fans. His songs have certainly endured, partly because of the Western themes.
By the way, guys and gal, I forgot to mention: I'm actually going to this match! My first time this season (thanks to my being ancient, and worried about Covid)!!!!!!!!! So we'd better play well and win properly!!!!!!!
