Like all good Tories, when backed into a corner, he throws out a completely speculative claim as to what he thinks Labour might have done, just to distract from what he has actually done. At the end of the day, it has to be remembered that the Tories have been in power for so long, none of the current issues in this country are related to the Labour Party. Plus, of course, if they had followed Gordon Brown’s post global crash financial plan, like so many other nations did, we would have recovered, but the Tories chose to go the opposite way, down the austerity route. Even Osborne’s own senior financial adviser has admitted that had it not been for Brown’s actions, things would have been worse.
Is it as simple as it not counting towards debt for the purpose of trying to secure a loan or mortgage? I’m not sure how likely that size of loan would be to make a difference but I guess it might push people over the threshold Granted I am sure that is not likely what was meant when he was asked or questioned in that. He has potentially been tricksy in providing a technically correct answer
NHS staff, in English hospitals will have to start paying to park on site again, when the free parking “pandemic amnesty” ends on 31st March. Javid has thanked them for their efforts and rewarded them by reinstating the parking charge that, if I am correct, doesn’t exist in Scotland and Wales, so is basically a tax on England based NHS workers. One single parent has been quoted as saying that she will now need to leave home earlier than usual to find an off site, free parking space which will save her £7 a day in parking fees, but will increase the cost of childcare.
I would wager that the average NHS staff member is less likely to be a potential Tory voter and as such is entirely expendable as far as Conservative HQ is concerned.
Before I retired just over 8 years ago, I was paying £35 per month for the chance to park my car in a staff car park. I say “chance”, because there were insufficient parking spaces for the number of staff paying for them. The monthly fee, taken directly from salary, was capped at £35 per month, so lower paid staff paid proportionately more than the higher paid like myself. It gets even worse, the vast majority of NHS Trusts subcontract parking to private companies, who obviously make a profit on staff, patients, and visitors parking. So any question of profits being returned to hospital services is untenable. A tax indeed, and one which is made even worse by the rubbish public transport systems in most of the country, making driving to work the only option for countless thousands of NHS staff.

Just terrible. As you say, the heartbreak of those lost and ruined lives for no reason is unimaginable.
I have to pay for parking at work, but it's 12 quid a month so hardly a big cost at all. I've turned down several NHS contracts over the years because of the problems and cost of NHS parking. It's a disgrace what the costs are for staff and its one more thing that drives people from the profession
On the day I read that we have only given 2000 visas to Ukrainian refugees, I also read the following comments from Tory MP Sir Bill Wiggin. “Why can’t we get the right people through our immigration system, rather than the wrong ones?” The wrong ones are refugees in “rubber boats”. The right ones? The ones he was referring to are very wealthy Qataris, who have had their visas delayed. He’s upset because the UK had “promised to axe visa restrictions for the very wealthy people in Qatar”. What an absolute charmer. In a nutshell, though, he is no different to any other Tory MP.
