"Everyone had always known that a change in trading relationships with the EU would cause a hit to the UK economy."

Where’s that line from mate ? It was too big a gamble to take in the hands of a buffoon who appoints other buffoons on the grounds of personal loyalty and ideology not ability. Some people believed the lies and others were xenophobic and there’s no doubting that this is a factor worsened by wasting money on friends during Covid, writing off fraudulent business activity related to furlough, then eventually the war. Is leaving the EU why France limited price rises to their people and we set up an ineffective loan scheme? I know many will bite on this because of what they voted for but it needs saying. I could have accepted leaving the EU had the deal been any use but fat chance of that under this vile idiot.

Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

I must've missed him saying that during the Brexit campaign.

Asked about the worrying trend while appearing in front of the Treasury select committee, Sunak said it was “always inevitable that if you change the exact nature of your trading relationship with the EU, that was going to have an impact on trade flows”.

Was that not always obvious, having never been a secret . . . . but it's what 'we' voted for, no matter who was at the helm :emoticon-0112-wonde

It's also obvious that we were never going to get a 'great' deal, but we did vote to leave and had to :emoticon-0148-yes:

I clearly misunderstood the message at he time.

"A deal that will allow UK goods and components to be sold without tariffs and without quotas in the EU market.

A deal which will if anything should allow our companies and our exporters to do even more business with our European friends."

Brexit (I voted for it) was always going to have a trade hit for a few years. Then Covid19 and the war has made it worse.

I thought it would, Boris Johnson said it wouldn't.

That's where I was confused or perhaps he was.

That would be a bit like me joining a gym and then deciding I did not want to pay my subscriptions any more, but still expecting to use the gym's facilities <laugh>

I think all of the UK knows that Bonko very rarely tells the truth. If you want the opposite of someone "whose word is his bond"... Bonko is it.

    Yet he was elected PM.
