Agree about the Spanish usefulness in South America, but me and my family planned to spend far more time in Europe than Peru......<laugh><laugh>

As an Irishman living in Wales I really like the Welsh National anthem. I think it’s the best in the world and I love the way it’s sung, with such passion.
One if the languages I had to learn for ‘O’ Level was Irish, and I hated it. No one ever spoke it in Belfast where I lived and I ended up failing it, twice!
However I still retained a few phrases which came in handy one night when I was in a pub in Cardiff and a few well oiled locals thought it would be funny to take the p!ss out of me by speaking to me in Welsh and laughing at whatever they were saying. I responded with a long Irish Gaelic sentence I knew and stared them out. They soon shut up after that.
As far as speaking Welsh is concerned I’m not against learning it. My daughters are Welsh and my grandchildren go to Welsh speaking schools which I believe will be of benefit when they go on to pursue their careers. But I have no need or intention of learning Welsh but I don’t have any qualms about others learning and speaking it. It’s their choice and to some their first language.
