Martin has made 68 appearances for City and scored 13 goals, including three in Severnside derbies, since arriving on a free transfer in September 2020. And the striker is delighted to be remaining with the Robins, saying: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and am excited about staying for at least another year. I’m keen to continue contributing so we finish as high up the table as possible so we head into next season with some momentum.” Nigel Pearson spoke to Robins TV about the No.9's extension, saying: "You look at a lot of our goals and he's involved in them. Hopefully he'll continue with his contribution in term of scoring goals because that's what he really wants to do. "He's also a very reliable defender and we've needed that because we have not been as reliable as I would like and the players would like themselves. He's had a decent season when you consider how long he was out for last season. "Chris has good availability and, when he has played, he has performed well, I think it's important to recognise the players that have contributed consistently well for the team."
Personally works his ass off but we need more goals from a number 9 if we are to progress-i reckon he will be used less next season with new signings coming in.
Even CRAP players are expensive, so 8 DECENT players will cost an absolute boatload, unless you have spotted 8 absolute diamonds quietly working their way up under the radar in the youth setup unnoticed by any press or club scouts(?). Steve L may very well have enough money in his personal piggy bank to go spending, but FFP means that he is not ALLOWED to spend as he wants - it has to be balanced against income or we'll end up doing a 'Derby'. If we are still stuck with the likes of Wells and Palmer then everyone's hands are tied.
They are the first to get rid-the money wasted on those two mind boggling-certainly had BRISTOL CITY FC pants down. Many will be leaving including players you think are safe.
This proofs we are ****ed and won’t be spending any money. Hopefully it was just extended based on appearances and triggered automatically. So nothing we could do about it. If not then it’s not the better idea we’ve had. Different gravy according to someone, more like lumpy gravy.
Where are we going to get the money to buy 8 championship standard players? . We are in danger of falling foul of FFP as it stands & you think we are somehow going to find the funds to buy 8 championship standard players. We’ll end up like Derby if we do that RR.
Bit of a insight on transfers Nigel Pearson outlines future plans for Bristol City's defence including summer recruitment Nigel Pearson is eager to switch to a back four when he has the right players available at his disposal and revealed his intention to recruit "knowledgeable" and versatile wide defenders. The manager has been forced to chop and change his backline throughout the season both through injuries and a lack of form. Pearson has flipped between a back three and a flat four throughout the season. According to Whoscored, City have fielded a 3-5-2 (or variation of) 21 times from the start of games and a formation with a four-man defence 17 times, occasionally switching during matches as well. Timm Klose's January arrival helped bolster numbers at centre-back, following Nathan Baker's concussion which is expected to rule him out for the season, but right wing-back has remained the biggest issue with the manager utilising six different players in starting roles in that problem position this season. Forward Andi Weimann has started the last two matches in that position after fellow striker Sam Bell had a stint against Middlesbrough, Coventry and Birmingham. Pearson has alternated his formation this season, playing with a back four at the beginning of the season before moving to a three in a bid to stop shipping in goals. He went to a back four against Boro, Coventry and Forest but sacrificed it at half-time at The City Ground. It was the same situation against Birmingham with Pearson then opting for a three in the last two matches. When quizzed whether Weimann, City's top scorer on 17 for the season, could be eyed as a long-term solution at wing-back, Pearson said: "For someone who doesn't like playing three at the back? I like to have a few adaptable players in the squad, where we can play different formations. I've never really enjoyed playing five at the back too much. "I've played in that position myself as a player, in a three and a four at the back - it's about playing a system that suits the players that we currently have. The way we play at the moment suits the players that we've got." When shifting his focus to this summer's recruitment, Pearson spoke about the importance of his new additions being versatile on the flanks. "I think we need to have some established knowledgeable defenders whether they're wide players, wide defenders, or not," he added. "When people ask me about that, it's nice to have full-backs who can play wing-backs, nice to have wingers who can play at wing-back, nice to have full-backs who can play as wingers but the position remains wide and that's the key to that. "George (Tanner) is a player given time is a player that will be able to play full-back or wing-back. That's the key to it. Moving forward, it would be nice to have full-backs who can defend and stop crosses, wing-backs who can defend and stop crosses but can also give us something going forward too." Last week Pearson identified the central defence as being the main focus of his transfer priority with Klose and Robbie Cundy out of contract in the summer. Zak Vyner has also fallen out of favour in his plans, while Tomas Kalas is struggling with injury. "Our main objective still is to have dominant centre-backs that can deal with the demands of the game," he said. "Full-backs are nice on a wishlist but I think everyone said they centre-back building through the middle and that will also remain the priority so at the moment, we thought we were relatively strong, we've underachieved this year. So that remains the priority." A busy summer in order for Pearson and his task to reshaping the defence, indeed.
My thoughts exactly AR. I assume that SLs campaign (alongside other football chairmen) to have FFP relaxed by exception due to the Covid crisis has not been successful? I've not heard or read anything more about it recently.
not all the teams have complied to the cut off point for submitting accounts.. so EFL have not had a chance to check the seriousness of the problem and work out a common denominator. You have to bear in mind that not all teams are in the same financial league! If you use say 20% as a figure for a calculation then it will favour a small turn over, affect a larger turnover moreso. why? because there is a fixed point.. viz £39m! some teams will never spend £39m in 3 years! let alone lose it.. Teams with parachute' s are favoured, especially in the 2 years of covid! I reckon BCFC will get a suspended points deduction. EFL may restart the 3 years from 2021/22 season, but have some sort of claw back to 2019/20 .. 2020/21 to level out /keep in check clubs actions regarding FFP FROM 2021/22 SEASON.
I’ve no idea how it’ll pan out re FFP, points deduction etc, but either way we’ll not have much, if any, funds available, and certainly not enough to bring in anywhere near 8 championship standard new players.
Remember the squad is bare and needs increasing plus a exodus of players-going to be a busy time in the transfer windows.
When you go to the shops and you have £1 in your pocket. Can you afford that big box of chocolates or that Mars Bar? That will be us going into in the summer transfer window.
