Maybe because it brings money in for the SMC, which in turn helps City? Also it’s good to see the club involved in events in the community.
Unfortunately I don't think the council or anyone else has ever put anything really concrete in the public realm. I seem to remember there was talk of a large school/academy ( when the city had most the schools redone ) but it never went anywhere.
I don't really follow Rugby that much these days...I just don't understand the hatred to FC (Other than the KR plebs). Why are people so bothered??? Is it the pitch? That's only an issue for a small amount of the season if at all.
Don't most UK cities have a 'largest fair in Europe' at some point in the year anyway? Newcastle has the Hoppings, Nottingham's goose fair ect... Hull fair is about as unique and historic as all the others as far as I can see. I can hardly see how the business model is unique and some sort of big secret.
I’ve always wondered this, several fairs all claim to be the biggest / oldest - I just put it down to marketing BS!!
There's only Hull and Nottingham who can lay claim to be the biggest travelling fair, in reality both are very similar sizes, have many of the same rides and both attract 4-500,000 visitors a year (Hoppings is smaller and only gets about 300,000).
.... plus having an abundance mentality versus a scarcity mentality. As history has shown, get our own house in order (decent ownership, positive community involvement, good pr & marketing, sensible investment, ambition, hope, etc) and we'll do just fine.
Spatially the same as far as rides/area is concerned. It's essentially the same fair and same rides. Depends on the measure you use as to which is 'largest'. Hoppings is a little different as its held in late/spring early summer as opposed to the traditional autumn season. Perhaps footfall is lower but its essentially the same fair. It's just marketing. Scarboro fair is probably the most famous of all, for reasons nothing to do with Scarboro.
It seems to be a age thing. From what I can gather Hull supporters would mock City supporters in the 80’s. I don’t think lads under 30 feel the same way plenty of City fans go watch FC
Whatever way you judge it, Hull, Nottingham and Hoppings are the only really big ones, there aren't loads of them. Scarborough Fair is famous for being a song, rather than a fair (at least in living memory), so is hardly relevant.
Point is you can claim anything you like with a grain of truth but a lot comes down to marketing/perception.
Neither Nottingham Goose nor Newcastle Hoppings are near football grounds, it is the fact that Hull Fair is potentially restricting development of Walton Street that is causing friction, if Hull Fair was held miles away none of us would give a f**k?
