As opposed to depressingly overhyped, overblown and pathetic - the way it usually is?

Yes but at least it was a major event. Dancing on ice looks like it's in a bigger set.

Does anyone actually care about the Oscar’s apart from actors? Like it’s not like you have people at home cheering on certain movies and actors in the hope that one wins (maybe some do but prob very small number).

Winning an Oscar is only really relevant for the people that win as means can add a few $ to their future fees.

Can’t see why anyone would want to sit there and watch a bunch of people just walk up to a stage, say some speech about how wonderful it is to be recognised and win then go sit back down again.

This was my point earlier. It's just a vanity-fest of narcissists who think they're actually important (I might have gone in for an excessive bit of tautology there).
I suppose that, like with footballers etc - there'll be people who gain some sort of vicarious thrill from seeing their "heroes" getting awards - but the voting is equally corrupt. Tick a few PC boxes - get an award, know the right people - get another.
I've never watched more than a few seconds of these things since... well, forever really. I can't stand the excess of those occasions.

This is like all "big events"

We talked about the magic of the FA cup or the big event that whole day was way back when. It was a full on day with the game at 3pm. now its barely even able to get its own day without other games.

the oscars are the same. theres loads of awards and back slapping and glitzy shows. I just think it looks small and dull, but then i did not watch the red carpet which is actually probably the bigger thing that then ceremony itself.

TBH the FIFA player awards look glitzier and bigger than the oscars!

The only part of any Oscars ceremony I've ever watched has been the Ricky Gervais takedowns that I've seen on YouTube.

Never. There's no interest for me because I'm not a film buff and so the film names mean nothing to me. There are only a few actors whose work I admire.

Never watched an award show of any genre. Never cared about celebs really.

Most of the best acting comes from the lesser-known character actors who are far more naturalistic. The "stars" are often mediocre actors who just play a personality that appeals to certain audiences. Americans appear to like big, brash characters with dodgy morals and even dodgier behaviour - constantly firing guns in crowded places but never harming innocents. Hollywood panders to this image, but it leaves me cold.
I find very few films even remotely interesting.

How much i wonder is this the cable/satellite tv type argument. if you've say 4 channels total in ye olden days and this was on one then you had a far greater chance of having to watch one if nothing esle was on.

I wonder if some of this is down to just plain having too much choice now so we can forget these things exist if not actively interested?

I can recall a lot of very poor filler tv being huge way back when for no real reason other than its was all there was.

I think the problem with TV is we're all too ADD nowadays to sit still for TV.

I know I can't just watch television. I have to be doing something while watching television. Watching Television while not doing something else seems boring to me nowadays.

Watching TV is too much of a passive occupation for me. There are some things I'm interested enough to want to see, but I can't just fill my life with telly for the sake of it. I too would rather be doing something.
I don't watch the news or listen to it on the radio. I prefer to look at news websites where I can at least pick the articles that interest me rather than have it spoon-fed.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has named his version of the 'boot room' as the 'best' pub in Liverpool.
The Boot Room is a famous room at Anfield where the coaching staff would meet to drink tea and discuss the team, tactics and ideas that shaped the club and created the backbone for success.

Oh that is rather special. The initial side didn't hint at the final effect.

We have fireflies! Lots of 'em at the new place. Seems ridiculously early, usually think of them more as a summer sight. Quite nice being outside, serenaded by thousands of little tree frogs chirping in chorus whilst the fire flies dance around in the warm spring air.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think footballers have recently been blighted by a new batch of alarming hairstyles?
I know there's always a few who fall victim to acts of tonsorial terrorism, but I'm seeing a few new ones these days.
