Mexico v USA later today. Not looked at qualifying group but think just heard Mexico need to win 2 of last 3 to go to Quatar. Mrs put the liquidiser on just as it came on the news mind so not 100% on that.
Big game tonight but top 3 go through so you ought to be ok . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_–_CONCACAF_Third_Round
What an odd time to be an Italy fan - European Championships but failed to reach the World Cup twice in a row? How would you feel if that was England?
Certainly is for someone to miss out twice of such high profile. I think Denmark and Greece have missed out after winning the Euros but not so much of a shock.
I was replying to a top football nation missing out on two world cups We won in 1966, qualified as winners 1970 and then failed to qualifying 1974 and 1978
Yes, duggie, but as holders of a major title to fail is very bad, but Italy are one of a very few ‘giants’. Italy, Brazil and Germany are the giants, I would say. For a ‘giant’ to be knocked out of qualification by North Macedonia is unheard of, isn’t it?
I seem to remember them suffering similar humiliation at the hands of Pak Doo-ik, albeit in the group stage rather than qualifying stage.
A bit of a goalfest in the National League match Wrexham v Dover. After falling 2-0 behind, bottom club Dover scored five times in forty minutes to take a 2-5 lead - only to concede four more themselves and lose 6-5. Dover's on loan keeper from us, Adam Parkes, must be sick...
Eleven minutes of added time so you never know. And Wrexham scored twice during that eleven minutes, the winner coming in the 99th minute. The 8572 in attendance certainly got their money's worth.
Could he be in line for a job in Watford? https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...i-want-to-keep-coaching-to-the-end-of-my-days
Yes, that was a shock. But I still think this one stands alone when you add in North Macedonia’s ranking.
Of course Italy might have gone on to lose to Portugal anyway. Can lightening trike twice for North Macedonia?
For Italy maybe, but, for me, the result of a certain WC match played in Belo Horizonte on 29/6/50 stands well and truly above all else.
