I tried to edit the original post and a new post popped up. Don't know what I did but instead of leaving it be I tried to edit it again.
I may be recalling things differently from how they occurred, especially taking into account I can no longer remember yesterday with a great deal of accuracy. But I seem to recall some interest from the Saudis before the cowboys took over, I dont remember any protests, I seem to recall a veiled hope that we would suddenly become the next Chelsea?
yes DIC. there was not a huge protest no. as i recall there was some banner sin the ground begging for DIC which was rather funny. We have to recall it was a simpler time in 2006/07 when iphones were only starting and the mass media thing of everyone having an opinion was not quite formed. It was sell out territory and moores too the biggest payment to him personally but DIC didn't go in hard as it were TBH. the were...well... quite soft and non committal. IMo they saw city as cheaper option as everything was tied to a white elephant new stadium at the time.
only during times of war mate. just go round burning stuff down. Its almost the french way except I don't run away and surrender after.
I'll go in for a bit of virtue signalling and point out I've always spoken out against us having sugar-daddy owners, although that is as much to do with sporting integrity as political concerns. I don't like it, and wouldn't have felt like we truly earned the success if it was achieved that way. I've defended FSG's business model while some on here were slagging them off because they weren't putting their hands in their pockets. I think that with the right manager and structure we can see that it's possible to compete with the oil clubs, without their huge input. The trophies accumulated by Chelsea and City will all be a matter of record of course, but in my mind they're just bought, not earned. I know I'll get accusations of hypocrisy levelled at me because we're a rich club by the standards of most, but if people can't see the difference then I don't think my explaining it will change their minds.
Apparently not, although I agree it feels like it should be. The petrodollar is one factor keeping the US afloat.
I'm with you, I'm sure plenty of Chelsea fans where similar when roman took over, not really happy but it's your club for good and bad. Plenty of supporters regardless of affiliation will jump at the chance of success regardless, Liverpool are not immune. I think I'm with Bumps, punishing the supporter because your owner is a twat, just seems to go a bit far, if that was universal Newcastle fans would have been flogged to death by now because if Ashley and I'm fairly sure we would have been done fir the actions of the Americans.
Liverpool and FSG set for £85m Champions League boost Liverpool have made the joint highest amount of prize money from this season's Champions League so far Liverpool and FSG set for £85m Champions League boost - Liverpool Echo
You have literally abbreviated my massive essays But nail on head That is exactly how I view this And I think it is by enlarge totally avoidable
well...... if you guys can figure out how to deny russia any succour to fund thier illegal war whilst ploughing money into russian companies so you can have a good time please let us all know. In the mean time people can just take the merest, tiniest bit of pain to support the Ukrainians and push the Russians back IMO. Cos lets be frank here. Czechoslovakia, austria etc proceeded prior to WWII and the Sudetenland was only 6 months prior to the next push. if we want to appease russia and roll over to allow cheslea fans see more football then say so burn their yachts. give their mansions to Ukrainian refugees. deny them every modern product we can. eventually some russian general will put putin against a wall.
It's been looking like China is on that trajectory for a long time... Just like Japan looked like it was on that trajectory at one point. There are major problems emerging in China's economy though. Over expenditures in infrastructure that wasn't used. An aging population brought on by one child... China is beginning to accumulate debt at a rapid rate. China's central government is slower to respond to market forces than purely capitalist societies and that is going to put a strain on China when things go pear shaped. China's pure population size will put it above the US eventually, but it may not be quite as imminent as expected. China will eventually overtake the US (and might over take the US and dip before overtaking them again) but China is due a massive recession and temporary dip in wealth which will probably drag the whole world down with it when it crumbles. It will be interesting to see how China will fare politically if/when they enter a depression.
For me, if you support a club then you support all of it, not speaking up about dodgy dealings (or players kicking cats), is condoning it. Turning a blind eye in the name of winning a few trophies doesn't sit right with me. I will put it like this, if it had been our club bought by a dodgy Russian or a murderous regime that was now being sanctioned and our fans were having to bear the brunt, I'd feel exactly the same.
According to Jack Grealish, MO Salah has not been given enough free kicks for fouls committed against him. Do I hear him right?
Which is why some of us were outraged our club bought badontelly. A lunatic with no sense of manners or work ethic. In short we learned the hard way imo off others. Torres imo was the first lesson for some as the idolisation was slike nothing id ever seen before. Him wanting to screw the club over seems to shock some. Then suarez which looking back was a shambles who should never have been bought... cos the lunatic bit someone! But he was defended mainly cos a.man utd player goaded racism out of him. We had to learn from that and all. Then sterling we got 49mil for but still booed his every touch. We are rather precious I suppose and most us us were indeed guilty of it. At this point after can, wijnaldum, coutinho (next salah) it really is don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. Imo if a player does something reprehensible now they can go immediately and never play for us again and if they just want to go then just play well and be on tour way then Zouma being defended by his club. Nasty. Chelsea fans signing for ambramovic while bombs are falling. Their club deserves to burn. Zero sympathy.
totally disagree with the highlighted bit I think the club treated Torres poorly - very poorly Macca was a tw@ Owen was a tw@ Even Gerrard when he turned round and said he wanted out to win trophies I think the club saw an opportunity to sell Torres for a ridiculous amount of money Just an opinion
