I think it's down purely to that fact that we have more of the ball at home. Teams play more defensive away and we have no clue how to break them down and we don't do much when we have the ball. We try to be more attacking and play higher up but all that does is leave holes. I'd love to know how many games we've won this season when we've had more possession that the opposition. Both Coventry and P'boro both had more possession than us.
I think it shows just how inexperienced our squad is, we don't know how to "play the game" ( or just don't want to ) do we think any team has come away from the MKM thinking and feeling like they have been in a tough physical game? On a side not I hope Luton go up this season. Would be interesting to see them in the prem and the teams like man city etc go there
Luton going up would be like when Blackpool were in the Prem. Unfortunately a club like that just wouldn’t have the resources to compete, even with the promotion payments. Luton are punching well above their weight already in the Championship.
That approach is an option for sure. The flip side is that in among the unnecessary OTT abuse which no-one on here should have to see or put up with, there's quite often some decent comments, and even when you disagree it at least can make you think, see a different perspective, etc..It's a bit like listening to LBC for me. I disagree with much of what is said on there, particularly from smarmy self righteous O'Brien, but I often still listen because it does often make me stop and think etc. and it's good not to just listen to views that simply re-enforce how you already see things.
Luton gave Chelsea a game and a half in the FA Cup recently at home. I noticed the change at Kenilworth Road this season. It's gone from a family friendly bit of a joke ground to visit to one that is as near to the Old Den at Millwall that I have have experienced, as an away fan, for some time. And they do physically bully the opposition on the pitch. I was amazed Jacob Greaves was still standing on two legs at half time when we played them away because they battered him on and off the ball. To make things even more uncomfortable for our team there some of our own supporters were singing within ear shot of Grant McCann 'your getting sacked in the morning' It made my blood boil. Its a tight horrible little ground at the best of times but now its deliberately hostile to the away team. Its the exact opposite to what we are to visiting teams.
It is but it can also bankrupt a club. When we got promoted for the first time, we didn’t live within our means signing Bullard etc. and it almost liquidated us, but the club had to make big-money signings to try and compete. Blackpool were the same when they were promoted and relegated. If Luton go up this season, then they’ll predictably spend a large whack of the promotion money on signings to compete in the Prem, but they don’t have the infrastructure for it to be sustainable. It’s sad really.
On Wednesday we were excellent, other then the last fifteen minutes after Docherty and Elder came on and we lost all our shape. Baffled as to why he decided to start them yesterday.
Elder was due to Fleming knock wasn't it?, but I've absolutely no idea why Slater was dropped for doc ( who's been my biggest disappointment this season )
In your opinion being what? (A genuine question out of interest. I can think of several reasons, but interested in your take on 'a reason'). I don't think Luton particularly bully teams. They are simply a lot stronger, have more pace, more craft and more nous than we do imo.
Luton are basically us when we first went up under Brownie. Individually their players aren't world class, but they have bonded well and they understand each others strengths and weaknesses. We have ended up pretty much where I thought we would come the end of the season, so I have no complaints, but next season as HT2 said I want the owner to put his money where his mouth is. If he's serious about getting promoted like he says he is, we need a pretty substantial improvement in key areas in terms of quality. I think the home grown lads and Baxter, McLoughlin and Honeyman make a very good spine. What we really need is creativity as we just seem to lack any ideas going forward. Matt Ingram should not be our most creative player in a side that plays with two attacking midfielders and two wing backs.
WE are way too nice. We only have Smallwood who gets stuck in every now and again. We need to sign some nasty bastards.
I know he's upped his game in recent weeks, but I honestly don't know why Smallwood has been kept on as captain. He isn't vocal, yes he goes over to the ref and "has a word", but when mistakes are made he isn't going over and speaking to the person doing it, nor is he ever seen geeing up the team when we go behind. I might be spoilt because I grew up watching the likes of Whittle, Ashbee and Greaves Snr (can't remember if he was every captain but he was very vocal). Smallwood feels more akin to Koren or McKenna. Yeah, experienced and a good role model, but also too nice and not really involved in the game for 90 minutes. For me a captain has to be hands on, effectively a sort of deputy manager. Honeyman seems like a much better fit, if not him then Coyle or Eaves.
Because we are as soft as ****5 at home, that is a reason, simple as that. Luton did bully us away and they targeted who to clobber yesterday too. Who did we bully ? Who did we intimidate ? More ;nous' means more street wise which is exactly what I posted hours ago, Luton have it, Sheffield United did when they went up from the Championship, but we don't, we are as green as grass. Or should I say we have been over the last five home games. At Kenilworth Road Greaves was getting battered and only Smallwood, off the ball, at a Luton corner gave anything back. We need the other ten fighting our corner too. So I suppose we are missing Magennis in that department. I don't think Luton had anyone quicker then KLP yesterday either, they were as strong as we were soft, and again that is my point. I don't include Honeyman in those comments either. He'd run through a brick wall for us. Perhaps we are physically smaller then most teams at this level and that needs attention in the summer too.
He may be a quiet talker and marshal the team in ways that aren't very visible but agree with the comment that Smallwood never appears to rally the troops when we've conceded a goal. I do think this team works very hard but sometimes heads seem to go down a bit too easily when we go behind.
And for the record I never said he was banned off here He was reported by a **** on here for his voluntary job I hope that persons pleased Back stabbing twat
