Anyone own property in Europe? Lived in Asia 14 years, thinking of moving back closer to home. After recommendations.
Plenty of bargains to be had in Spain, depending on where you want to live. New builds tend to be more expensive and you aren’t always told about the additional taxes that get added on. Plus you will need to apply for a visa, (Brexit bonus) something I am going to do in the next month or so. I would be doing it now, but have a pre-arranged holiday which could impact on timings as paperwork (Police check and medical certificate) are only valid for 90 days. Here’s one of many links, giving a list of paperwork 3rd country citizens have to complete, plus details of personal funding needed. You need to specify if you will be working or not, as the visas are different. https://wherecani.live/blog/view/non-lucrative-visa-spain/
Have you thought about France ? Couple over the road wanted to go to Spain , lady has a sister there , but it was so difficult ( they said ) they are moving to France by the border with Spain , sorry don’t know where .
Cheers for the link. That's very interesting. I'm what's called a 'digital nomad', meaning I can work from anywhere I want. A lot of countries are creating new semi-permanent visas to cater for this sort of thing, but usually you have to prove that you are employed by a legitimate company. I'm just self-employed so might be tricky for me. But, that non-working visa could be the way to go. The locals don't need to know that I'm working! Just amazing how cheap it is on the continent! Edit: Just seen there's also a Self-Employment Visa. That's probably what I want.
Mainly been checking Spain/Portugal/Italy, but I'm open to anywhere. France would be great too; was just assuming they'd be the most awkward, haha.
For the price of a crappy house in Shirley, you can get a villa in Spain, with a pool! I mean, obviously I love Shirley, but Spain's probably alright too.
I know , I can only go by what the neighbours said , but I do know they had been looking at Spain for ages , but as we all know things are changing all the time . Good luck wherever you choose !
House prices are mad here sure enough . I live in bh22 0b a 2 bed detached bungalow opposite ( nice but it is what it is ) has just gone on the market for £450,000 , and it will be gone for at least that much within a month I guarantee it !
Thanks! Early days of course, so won't be happening any time soon. Most likely just spend the rest of the year travelling about and seeing what's what.
