They may have acted illegally in terms of failing to consult with the employees; however, it would appear that P&O have only got rid of their British workers to be replaced by agency workers. It is reported that they have not given their French workers their P45s, possibly because French law makes it very difficult to get rid of anyone.

As P&O are not a public sector organisation, the government cannot intervene despite all the howling from crazed Lefties. As the RMT is probably the most Communist union in the land – even though Bob Crow is pushing up the daisies – you would think that they would be blockading the ports that P&O use just like the French would have done.
