Johnson trotting out that old chestnut about Brits going to work, when ill, as if they had a choice to stay at home. I think another odious member of the government said similar, last year, about us “enjoying” working when sick.
I’m old enough to remember when everyone was paid sick pay by their employer, as in their usual wage, for periods of time dictated by length of service.

As an add on to the above, it is law, in Germany, to pay 100% of a sick employee’s wages for the first 6 weeks and, in the UK, if you earn less than £120 per week you aren’t even entitled to sick pay.

I've heard quite a few people say that they can't afford to test positive for Covid, as their boss won't pay them if they're sick. That's shocking really, an indictment of how far we have regressed as a country since I joined the workforce in 1977.

I was thinking this the other day. I have been lucky that in (most - there was one that is didn't but I was a contractor) of my roles since I started work I get sick pay and assumed it was the norm, It really isn't and frankly in 2022 that is quite disgusting.

Trying not to get political here, but this is just what this current government wants. To take workers rights back to Victorian days. Makes my blood boil ……

The incompetence, graft and corruption over the handling of the pandemic spills over to the politics thread with a continuing liturgy of deception and lies.

They can’t afford to test positive and soon then won’t be able to afford to take a test anyway. Problem solved!

I’m assuming it’s the BA2-Omicron variant, which so far is just like a bad cold. I’m just feeling exhausted really. It’s really bad timing though, I had a few things lined up this weekend which I can’t do. I guess I should be grateful I didn’t get it 2 years ago though.

I've tested twice this week (both negative) as been feeling fatigued and runny nose. Going to test Saturday and then Sunday if still negative as don't want to take it to football. Especially when I hug everyone when Shane Long gets a 95th minute winner.....

Thanks Tom, as I said to no7 it’s pretty mild so far. If I hadn’t tested positive I would have assumed I just had a cold.

All the best for a speedy and complete recovery, I'm sure there's lots of untested and unrecorded cases that endanger the vulnerable and increase the risk of mutations.

My daughter has had it since last weekend and is still testing positive. My wife has a bit of a cold and had a negative test, whereas I've felt like a complete bag of crap for the last 3 days and also had a negative test...I've been off work for 2 weeks with an unrelated problem but am due back next week.
Am now a bit paranoid that I've got it, but it's not producing a positive result yet.
We've had a huge increase in positive cases in our bit of Wiltshire, and Bath Uni has hundreds of cases so I'm really not looking forward to going back into the petrie dish on Monday.

EDIT. Mask wearing and most of the other precautions people have been taking seem to be consigned to the bin now, especially amongst the student population so it makes it like Russian Roulette for us staff who have to interact with students and their IT equipment. The attitude is now one of "oh well, we can't do anything about it, so just try not to catch it"
It's not comforting as my immune system is still compromised even though I'm not officially vulnerable.

Hope everything goes well for you folk that have finally got around to catching it

My apartment block, for 55+ year olds, has been in lockdown for 2 weeks because of a Covid outbreak, which in government parlance is 2 cases or more.
National figures claim that 1 in 24 people are Covid positive and that hospitalisations have risen, putting more strain on the medical staff.
I continue to wear a mask in shops for my own safety and because I have a family holiday booked for 3 weeks time, that I don’t intend to miss.

    Get well soon, Chilco!
I still haven’t had the “pleasure” and am still keeping well away from crowds, still wearing my mask etc …. I know it’s only a matter of time, but I’d like to give it a chance to mutate to something trivial first!
