It's interesting how many parallels there are between this Russian invasion of Ukraine and the German invasion of the (then) Soviet Union in 1941. In both the aggressor thought that they only had to attack for the defenders to cave in. In both there were unclear war aims. In both they had not provided sufficient logistic support for an extended conflict. In both they didn't employ enough forces at the start of the conflict. In both they ran into significant problems fighting in the mud, particularly with off road deployment. There are major differences of course, but it's an interesting comparison and involves stuff that you would have thought the Russians would be very aware of.
