I tend to agree, the current financial climate is tough, but that is where good coaches earn their money and reputation; Look at Luton, Coventry, QPR, Preston and now Forest, good young(ish) managers working with not much capital (less Forest), and all doing better than us, why?
players have a different mentality to our lot-the drive and passion is showing in only a few off ours.Been a long term issue at Bristol City FC as Nige has already found out.
Managers instil mentality. You keep saying our players don't have it, yet so many of them were in the squad/side that was challenging for the play-offs 2 years ago until COVID hit. The only change between now and then is the manager.
Have the drones fled the scene because apparently they were going to be instrumental in our rise to the top? I might suggest we need better players and/or a new manager rather than technology.
Inver, that dated thought process is probably why our club has not progressed. We need both technology and good management to make those incremental and potentially differentiating improvements.
There was a period prior to NP having to take time off where he seemed aggravated and heavy handed wordwise. I said at time prior to his "rest " all was not well body language all wrong and some bad /odd team decisions seemed to be without thought! A couple weeks off and was a sort of different person, nervous manouvres and body language calmer. Instead of being short and sharp in replies, he seemed to make pauses as if a prompt was helping? Still does it to a point [ anger management? ] The attitude of OF how they play [ everyone makes an error now and again ] or dont like playing as a round peg in square hole ... so makes error get dropped etc etc etc is poor man management, and unsettling... can upset the whole team balance as a player worries he may be next on the list!!! Not saying he has lost the dressing room, but the atmosphere might be strained?
Semenyo was wasteful and far too often picked the wrong option, Massengo was average in the first half and went missing for long periods of the 2nd. Weimann’s worst crime was missing 2 gilt edged chances.
Football is far more difficult game when your club does not the financial clout that every club that Pep has ever been in charge of. I would like to see saint Pep in charge of a club like ours, to see if he is actually a great football coach or merely somebody who selects 11 players incredibly talented players out of a huge squad of incredibly talented players.
Semenyo needs to get his head up and pass when a player has a better scoring chance-so many wasted goal scoring opportunity's
2 different things here Jiffie. Of course, his players are better, but the extra 1-2% he gets out of them over other clubs with talented players are those little innovations in training. The devil is in the detail, if it gives the elite players an extra 1%, why wouldn't it give other players the same. These things have to be tried or training would never have evolved from 'headers and volleys'.... Many ridiculed lJ for it, but I applaud him for trying something different, much better than a grumpy NP blaming everyone else and not seeming to take any noticeable steps forward in a year.
The issue with Semenyo is, he breaks so fast only Weimann can usually support him, but when AW is played at RWB he can't get there in time. You saw him busting his ball$ to get to that cross in the 1st half, but was stretching so much he put it over. If AW had been playing in a front 3 he buries that. I know people have said what choice did NP have, but playing AW as an RWB takes so much more away from the team than it gives imo.
What it removes is the need for turd polishing, 1 or 2% for some of our players would not make the slightest difference.
But neither goal was down to him and he still missed 2 great opportunities, so the argument is flawed and you can’t even offer an alternative in our present circumstances.
Blocked runners, poor man-marking, system confusion: Bristol City's set-piece struggles in focus The Robins were unstuck by two more corners against Barnsley and it has become a reoccurring theme throughout the season https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-corners-mistakes-made-6814936
Supcon can't, because there isn't one. Until and possibly when Tanner is fit. Even Tanner has a way to go before he's up to the Championship. But he's our best hope at RB.
As always you miss the point, playing AW at RWB takes far more away from the team than it gives. Vyner can play there and should, yes he has made some bad errors, but all of our defenders have. Look at the 2 goals we conceded on Tues evening with Vyner sat on the bench, generally our defence is very poor, despite NP signing 5 defenders this season.
Tanner had 1 good game before his injury, yet you are heralding him as the messiah. He was playing at the foot of L2 last season don't forget. He is a long way from the finished article. I'm sure NP bought him with the future in mind, but was forced to play him as Simpson was so unprofessional, and Vyner has been out of form.
Challenging for the play offs? really, to be challenging you need to be in the mix going into May not surrender the challenge in January or February. 2016/2017 from mid October to February we won 1 out of 14 games, which ended any realistic chance of the play offs and patchy form from then on confined us to 17th place. 2017/2018 well in the mix until January and then shocking until the end of the season, was it 2 or 3 wins out more than 20 games?, 11th place. 2018/2019 there or there abouts until February and then another piss poor run and although we finished a very credible 8th it is disingenuous to claim that we were challenging for the play offs, we were always playing catch up and needed a miracle. 2019/2020 ok again to February but back down to 12th way off of challenging. A play off challenge lasts longer than the first half of the season, there has never ever been a season under LJ that it can be claimed we were challenging, going into the 2nd half of the season we always fell away and at best were always playing catch up and would have needed a long unbeaten run to actually make a challenge and that never happened or ever looked like happening. But it's a romantic revision of history. For the record am I happy? am I f***, but I think that when our financial situation was first announced I said either other clubs in our division had faired better during lockdown than us or they had been playing fast and loose with FFP rules, always knowing in my heart it was the former and Stoke's close to double of our debt seems to have proven that, it seems that by attempting to play by the rules has cost us squad wise compared to many in our league and also for the record your suggestion that it was ground refurbishment and training ground are wrong, they are owned by 2 different companies.
Shows how weak that r/b position is-been a problem for years-Ayling was by far the best but LJ did not play him and the rest they say is history.
