Not true. Why would i be arguing with my own fans if i was a sheep following the crowd!! Im merely pointing out that i dont agree that norwich and saints have an afiliation for each other when there is no obvious reasoning and history between us. Having peter crouch playing for both clubs and saying they seem a nice bunch of people certainly doesnt convince me. i just think some of our fans need to be more careful who they make their afiliations with, and need to have a greater understanding of what some of the saints fans are like before they are put on such a high pedalstool!!
I really dislike Southampton, the team, not the town (although the town is not great, quite like the marina area, anyway I digress), and I have no idea why I dislike them so much, I have no reason to I liked them winning the FA cup when I was a little boy and really liked Matt with the funny nose. Completely inexplicable reasons, and I'm sure many of you have teams you dislike for no real reason. In fact as a canary I prefer Ipswich to Soton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in Cambridge some of the time, as I am a student, and love it. Cambridge United have a rivalry with Luton (I think), Histon and Peterborough. Doesn't mean I'll start hating Joe Lewis, or any other player. But, that's just me. I'm perfectly entitled to like Peter Crouch just as you hate Southampton.
i agree that there are certain teams that you dislike for no real reason, however i do find it strange you dislike a team with no obvious connection to you more than your local rivals
my irrational hatred goes to coventry city. never quite sure why but i think much of it has to do with david flippin' speedie!!
I'm with you on Coventry, it goes back to 1985, they had to win something like their last 10 games to send us down, and the buggers did it
If we're into irrational hatreds now, I've never liked Chelsea after some of their fans nicked my Saints bobble hat outside the Dell in January 1968!
My enemies enemy is my friend... I don't buy into this way of thinking like some fans do. Although I am a true rival supporter I don't hate Norwich. I like all the clubs form East Anglia apart from Peterborough who are pikey scum. If supporters from other club's pick on Ipswich or even Norwich I would be inclined to defend both clubs! I support Ipswich first and East Anglia second!
Yeah, maybe that statement was a bit strong. However, as a young naive boy, watching the awful Gerry harrison commentate on east anglian football, I really wanted Ipswich to win the league when they had an incredible group of players, loads of international players and I liked Arnold Muhren. My dislike grew, when I was a ballboy for Norwich Ipswich in a FA cup tie in 1983 I think. Norwich won one nil and Keith Bertschin scored. Most of the Ipswich team signed my programme; only Paul Mariner didn't. The combination of winning against the rivals ( I was becoming aware of the fact suffolk folk are a little odd!) and arsey players led to my dislike.
Ipswich was the first club I went to watch as an adult (I had been to Leicester as a kid,my Uncle lived in Filbert Street) This was in 1972 when I was at college and some mates went to a few games. Then when it was the local derby I found myself supporting Norwich,I have no idea why,I just liked them. For many years I went to watch both clubs on a regular basis but I found myself not being upset if Ipswich lost as long as it was a decent match.Norwich I would preferred to see win even if it was 1-0 dross.Odd.
Very Odd indeed Cruyff! I assume you are a Suffolk boy and were around to watch Ipswich during the glory years. Very strange....! Nurse, Nurse is it time for my pills?
Agreed, our rivalry comes down to our football and location. It isn't like the Celtic/Rangers rivalry which goes way beyond football which I can make no sense of it. I have a poke about Ipswich, but it's mainly about the football, but that's it. Nothing political or anything like that. Nothing can results in abuse or violence.
Oh well, seeming as were doing this, did i mention that i also hate.... No, ok think ive said enough, and must admit, im not very good at playing the bad guy. But, hey sometimes in life you have to stick to your guns, even if it doesnt make you friends!!!
´tache - I absolutely agree, except the Peterborough bit, but my first choice would be Norwich, as you probably guessed anyway.
