Sorry for intruding but the Sunderland boards a bit boring this week saying as we won.

Here's my list of over-rated players (It is exhaustive) haha

No1 - Carlos Tevez, who cares if he didn't want to come on, he thinks he's the greatest player in the world!

Now the list isn't in priority apart from Tevez who I've never thought was that great.

The central midfielder for Man Citeh, mentioned many times on here but I think he's so crap I won't mention his name

Kieron Richardson
Carragher
Bale
Lennon

Not that I don't rate alot of these players but some of their reputations exceed their skill levels massively.

 

Oh and Charlie Adam, forgot about him, all he does is play 70 yard passes to the corner flag for a ballboy to collect.

 

Was gunna slaughter you for some of your suggestions, but I agree with you that even though they are good, their reputations are better than their footballing ability

 

Agree with all of these except Milner and Samba.

Lescott and Barry are both **** imo - I don't know how they get into the City team.

Out of these suggestions I think:

Lescott - definetly over hyped, although I do think he is a good player
Taraabt - totally agree, class in the Championship, but has done **** all in the Prem and thinks he is the bees kness
Henderson - he is better on the right than in the middle, but still nowhere near £20m value
Gyan - good player, but not that good
N'Zogbia - bad start at Villa, but is a class act
Barry - think 99% of people would agree with this
Matthew Upson - agreed, he is a big pile of ****
Ryan Shawcross - used to think he was good, but is just all elbows and pushing now
Vermaelen - always injured, but when fit is a top class defender
Milner - I love him tbh, proper class act
Luiz - needs to improve on lots, but is good player
Arsharvin - top player, but not performed in 2 years
Samba - agreed tbh, gets caught out by quick players
Roger Johnson - he thinks he is better than he is. He is good, but not £7m good
Kieran Richardson - totally agree, piece of ****
Carragher - million per cent agree
Bale - class on his day, but is inconsistent for me like
Lennon - same with Bale, end product is gash
Adam - agreed, thought he was overrated at Blackpool
Tevez - he is a dick, but is a brilliant player

Would also like to add Walcott to the list - same as Lennon really, end product stinks

 

one mans opinion,the 3 he mentioned were miles better than him esp. Maradona and Cruyff plus quoting one mans opinion will not change my mind as i'm sure i could find another top class player saying others are the best.Arguments could be put forward about the leagues he played in the fact that one of the world cups he won half the worlds nations didn't even bother with it etc.etc.
I'm not going to change my mind just cos franz said so (like he would say he was the best player anyway) see you didn't answer my question of what would the likes of Eusébio,Ferenc Puskás and George Best have done in those Brazilian teams against the opposition.Never said he was shyte far from it just the most hyped player of all time Christ i'd say messi is better than him due to the fitness and quality of todays players compared to the 50's 60's and early 70's

edit: i'm sure if you watch footage you'll see maradonna was hacked to pieces nearly every time he took the the field

I did think about it I must admit. But then I started thinking of the little italian master again and got a semi on! It really does wind me up that they only talk about the genius of attacking players. I realise that attacking players often provide the crescendo to a move and its natural they get the credit. But the defensive side of the game is equally important and good defending is an artform for me. When I watch old classic games with Baresi I'm always amazed. I remember watching him at the time thinking "**** me this little half-ling is running the whole game from centre back" He is like the conductor of an orchestra. Beckenbauer was the same. I wonder when they'll produce their next libero player? They Beckenbauer, Mattheus, and then Sammer to a lesser extent.

Its like when they discuss Cruyff and the majestic ability he had. I don't doubt it he was so elegant. But no one wants to talk about how Berti Vogts completely marked him out of the game in 74 cup final!

James Perch is quite overrated. Everyone goes on like he is the best player around and he really isn't...

 

Think that's the key, when you call someone overrated people seem to jump to the conclusion that your calling them ****, when in all honesty it's just their reputation among fans and media that your calling into question.

 

100% agree. He was shocking against City and will be sold by Utd at the end of the season IMO.

You're not alone I honestly don't know why people love him so much. He's scored a few half decent goals, but most of his goals must've been penalties. He's ****.

 

This. I'm not sure anybody rates him apart from City fans and pundits. In fact, not sure if City fans rate him.
