Chelsea’s Saudi guy is Judy one guy. We have a state backing us. It’s hundreds of billions vs tens of billions.
Bloody hell Albert. The official line is that we don't have State backing. Get it right. Also its unusual for Saudi companies to be led by women so you may be wrong about this Judy Oneguy.
They're the absolute BANE of the sport. They come in with their ****ing ten gallon hats, budweiser and boots and start telling us how the game should be played to maximise their profits. Adding Chelsea to that little pack will be a disaster, massive disaster.
That'll be man united pool and Chelsea they've got which isn't good imo. The Yanks are absolutely determined to make our sport like the NFL.
Chelsea trying to get game in cup against boro played behind closed doors in order to maintain the integrity of the cup
Too many more American owners and they will be pushing for a closed league with no relegation/promotion (European Super League) and franchises which can be moved between cities, would be little point in the smaller clubs like Southampton or Burnley if they could be moved and rebranded as the Manchester Saints or London Clarets to be more profitable.
I think with the ESL, it will eventually happen but I don't think the people pushing for it (over here at least) understand what a dramatic impact it will have on those clubs and will spell the end for them. I do think Chelsea and City under Abramovic and the Arabs actually listened to their fans to be fair and wouldn't enter that again, but Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Man U are thick enough to do so... Yes they are being promised billions and billions but at the end of the day that won't last because I think they are severely overestimating the amount of viewers who will tune in. The big six are only big here because of the local support they get. Yes they have fans across the world but if they are playing 20 away games in Europe every season and unable to compete in the EPL, CL etc their local fans will disperse to other local clubs and not be interested and the majority of other European fans who could travel to "away" games won't be turning out in droves to watch them, they've already got local teams to support. Then they are banking on world wide support via TV rights but none of the "other 14 fans" here or in any other country are going to pay to watch their games like they do on Sky, no one outside of those fans will purchase a package for a host of teams you have no interest in. Would anyone watch the C.L. or E.L. if you had to purchase it as an additional package on your sky box subscriptions? No, because if your teams not in it your probably not interested. If the yanks think their fans will travel across the continent and forgo the EPL and CL campaigns they are severely misguided. The only Spanish and Italian clubs interested are those who will go bankrupt in the next decade so need something different to be able to still compete in their leagues which ironically they won't be a part of if they join. The only thing I can compare these foreign owners idea of an ESL to is Bunnings purchasing Homebase for £340m and selling for £1 only 2.5 years later - an Australian company thinking they can enter a European/UK market and run it in their way - Bunnings were literally pitching BBQ sales in December like they would back in Oz thinking they would sell and unsurprisingly it went bust REAL quick, as will the ESL. Football isn't about money - although it helps - its about supporters and the local community and you can't get that in a European League and if your supporters aren't there and you aren't getting the viewing numbers it will fall like a house of cards.
