Another factor could be LBs business record - he won't want to fail again, and this time very publicly.
The long and short of it is Dyche is way out of his depth and should have gained some managerial experience at a lower league club. Watford have now had four rookie managers and this time we have come unstuck big time. I like Dyche and I believe he is trying his best to get us out of this hole but the facts speak for themselves. Third from bottom a really bad goals scored and even worse goals conceeded. The last four games scored 2 conceeded 11. Points **Bugger all** Improved performances mean nothing more goals in the onion bag than your opponents does. We are now getting loan players in like crazy and its back to the old desperate days of signings like Kerry Dixon and Sumo Quinn. With no tactics we are easily being picked off. The players look to the manager for inspiration and they can't see it. The only solution is to get an experienced manager in who wont cost the earth. I would go for Gary Johnson of Northampton an old Hornet boy who guided unfashionable Bristol City to a whisker of the promised land. Failing that then John Ward who has had moderate sucess at Bristol City and Colchester Utd. I would love Big Mick Mcarthy but he is probably out of our league on teh cash front unless Bassini works miracles. We don't want to go down the route of Dennis Wise or Paul Ince. I would rather Andy Hessenthaler or Kenny Jacket. Bassini is not silly he needs the fans on side and if we don't beat Posh then the deck of cards will come down and Dyche will be gone, Bassini will have to put him out of his misery. It will be to costly to go down and even harder to come back up. No doubt the troops wil rally and we will beat posh. My Hornet heart says yes my Hornet Head says no. Either way its going to be interesting at 4.50 P/M on Saturday.
I Thought the same as you Tivvy ,but why give him money to spend on loanee wages if your going to give him the boot next week!
I can't see how either of those would be an improvement TBH. Gary Johnson is currently struggling to keep a very ordinary Northampton side out of the League 2 relegation zone - and according to many on here, we too have very ordinary players. John Ward's Colchester are faring only marginally better than us in League 1 and he has a track record of walking away from jobs. I think that, if a change must be made at all, then copy Bristol City and look to Scotland. There are some excellent young managers up here who work wonders on limited budgets. Derek Adams of Ross County springs to mind.
Ok, my view on SD, and this is just my opinion! I think he is probably a very stubborn person. He has his way of doing it, and is intent on making it work. The previous manager used a lot of kids, but he wants to bring in older, experienced players and make it work for the team. The signing of Beattie reaffirms this for me... rather than try a kid out, he wants another 'experienced head' in the team in the hope that it will work. I'd say he is an 'old school' manager, a traditionalist. He wants to play a 4-4-2 with wingers and a big man up front. He doesn't have a plan B, but mainly because he doesn't want one... he is intent on making his way work. He wants 'hard men' in the team. A few players to let the opposition know we are there. I'm not really criticising this... but I just think we need a good mixture of both. I also think we need a plan B if plan A is not working. We need some flexibility with the personnel as well as the tactics. If we are struggling, play a front 3. If we are getting over-run in midfield, play 3 in the middle and push the wingers up a little. I just have a feeling the back room staff are scared to speak out against Dyche, some 'Yes' men, so he just carries on what he is doing, baffled why it doesn't work on the pitch, and telling Dyche he is doing all the right things!
If you want an experienced manager, how about Nigel Worthington? The IFA aren't exactly rolling in it, so I doubt his wages were outside what we'd be prepared to pay. He's used to working with a small player pool and is quite happy to play youngsters - Hodson and Thompson are the obvious examples but this is all pure speculation until SD is no longer boss and has already been pointed out, if Bassini is giving him the funds to sign loanees, why would he get rid?
Hull was indeed a much more improved performance it seems, but some of the defending for the first two Hull goals was quite comical. I think a problem is that Dyche didnt know his first XI having brought in a lot of experienced players, and trying to mix those with the players who remained from last season. I think we're starting to get there, particularly up-front where with Sordell and Iwelumo starting we have now scored 4 goals in two games. The time to panic is not now, but we need to look at games like Saturdays (at home to Peterborough) as ones where we should be seriously considering whether we can get the 3 points.
When I watched the highlights on the BBC website, I thought there was a foul in the lead up to their first goal. Hard to tell who it was, but one of our players appears to lose possession on the half way line by being thrown to the ground. As no-one else has mentioned it, I'm probably wrong, but the more I watch it........... Anyone else see that?
My main worry is the way Dyche isn't giving the youngsters a chance like Malky did. Now we all accept new players were needed to boost the squad but has Dyche and Mr Wilson tried to go for quanity rather than quality...afterall he has dropped a few of those signings he made already. In the futre I could see Hogg being useful and Garner given time.. Carl Dickinson is exactly the sort of signing we needed but not sure about a few others. Maybe I'm just biased as I've seen the young guys play a lot....
Do you actually support Watford, Norway? You've been posting things that seem anti-watford and anti-Dyche.
